ColdSnap was a 2021 Innovation Honoree in the Kitchen Gadgets catergory. It looks and functions like a larger version of a K cup machine except it dispenses a frozen treat in about 90 seconds. Additionally, plans for the future will include pods for smoothies, frozen coffees, protein shakes, non-dairy ice cream and even frozen cocktails. The pods have QR codes on top which tells the machine how to prepare the contents. It’s said to launch in select locations in the second quarter of 2021 and ship direct to consumers early next year. The price however requires the use of an optional chair to sit in when you hear the price: $1,000. If sales are robust the company said it hopes to eventually bring it down about half that price, but that’s still $500, plus the price of the pods, which are estimated to be somewhere in the $2.50 to $3.00 range. The pod containers are aluminum like a soda can, so they can be recycled. And the machine is said to weigh 50 pounds! Looking at their video, it does make ice cream really fast! You see how fast in their video. I don’t know how great this is for the home, maybe great if you have a lot of kids, or this might be better for a restaurant or an office, but $1,000.00? I wonder if this will end up going the way of the Keurig Kold soda maker that failed about 5 years ago.
BonBowl Lets You Cook & Eat Out Of The Same Bowl.
Meet the BonBowl. The BonBowl is perfect if you’re cooking for one, or need a way to cook in a small space like on a boat or a dorm room, or I guess even in a motel room. The BonBowl has two parts, the induction cooktop base and a specially designed bowl that fits on top of it. What’s clever is that you cook and eat out of the bowl. That cuts down on the cooking space and clean up time. Because it uses induction, which is sort of cooking with magnets, the cooking surface doesn’t get hot and the heat is trapped inside the bowl, reducing the chance of burns or fires while cooking. The cooktop is small 8″ x 8″ x 2.5″ and the bowl is said to be dishwasher safe. The company says induction cooking heats twice as fast as gas and electric stoves of similar size. Because the bowl and stove are small, the unit draws only 500 watts. Most induction cookers I see listed on Amazon all draw 1800 watts, so this one is better for small kitchens, campers, boats, motels, dorms, etc. The MSRP is $149.00, so you are paying a premium for the compact size as you’ll learn if you shop for other units online. The BonBowl includes the Cooktop + Bowl + one lid. It also includes free shipping within the US.

FlexBrew Makes Coffee Three Ways.
I thought I would make a bit more room in my tiny NYC apartment kitchen by buying one appliance to do the work of two. That’s why I bought the Hamilton Beach FlexBrew that offers 3 ways to brew coffee. You can make up to 12 cups with ground coffee on the carafe side or use dual purpose single serving inserts to brew a pod or ground coffee on the other. The included pod holder and single-serve grounds basket handle both options. A nice feature is that the cup rest can be removed so you can brew coffee into a tall travel mug. This coffee maker side has something they call Easy-Touch programming. After brewing, coffee stays warm for 2 hours and the power automatically shuts off. It does have a pause & pour feature so you pour a cup as coffee brews. There is a also a choice of regular and bold brewing options. Each brewing side its own water reservoir. I like the water fill windows that let you see exactly how much water you’ve added. $99.00. It makes great carafe coffee and K-cup coffee, but it’s a bit messy to clean up when you use the extra large ‘use your own ground coffee’ option since there’s only the built-in filter which has to be cleaned each time you use. You’ll hear more of my thoughts on this machine in the video on this week’s show. I bought mine on Amazon, where it was, and still is $99.00. I think that’s a great price for all the machine does.
