Show #1916 Week of December 29th 2022 Our “Worst Of” Show.
AMAZING! Soon we’ll be starting year 18 of The Giz Wiz Show!
(The first Giz Wiz Show – called The Daily Giz Wiz back then – was February 20th 2006!) If it wasn’t for our loyal supporters, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. We wrap up the year with look back at The worst of the worst gadgets of 2022! At first I thought Chad would have the most with all his ‘cheap crappy gadget’ corner themes, but it turns out I bought a lot of crap during the year too. And here they are, in no particular crappy order!
The Worst Gadgets We Uncovered in 2022! (In no particular order.)
A Device That Doesn’t Suck (Even though it’s supposed to!)
Meet The Odistar Rechargeable Mini Vacuum. Info from Amazon: Features a powerful 1600mAh built-in rechargeable battery. Capture nozzle picks up larger debris with ease unlike other manual vacuum cleaner. You can easily cleaning dust of desktop, computer, keyboard, etc. With 1000Pa of suction power, Table Vacuum Cleaner is strong enough to pick up even the largest piles. Yet, it is quiet enough for you to read or sleep while it cleans.
And from the Giz Wiz: Whoa. This sucks in the worst way! Possibly it might work to clean the crumbs off the table, but other than that, I think it’s useless. Watch a mini demo on this week’s show. At least it’s cheap. About $14 for the battery version (uses 2 AA, not included) and about $16.00 for the rechargeable version.

Chad found another gadget that doesn’t suck, but should!
From the company: VaBroom Cordless 2-in-1 Sweeper with Built-In Vacuum. Info via Walmark: Tackle dirt & debris with this cordless broom that has a built-in vacuum! It features a quiet 14,000 RPM motor so you can easily sweep dirt and debris, and then vacuum it up by simply pressing the suction nozzle to the floor. No bending or dustpan needed. Empty contents in the trash with the easy release button. Rechargeable lithium power pack with 72 Inch charging cable included.
And Chad’s take? Although one review said he had it up and charging in a few minutes Chad had trouble with both. Although he only charged it for 30 minutes, it showed no signs of trying to turn on. But another big problem is that the top section of handle which is supposed to screw together seemed not to have threads. So when Chad tried to picked up the broom it came off. And it was $60.00 at Walmart and even more, $65 on Amazon where it only got 3.3 stars out of 5. (Price & stars as of 4/11/22)
Walmart: https://tinyurl.com/2p9d9t4u $59.99 Got better reviews than Amazon here.
It was like $9 cheaper on Amazon. Check the latest price: https://amzn.to/3LUaaxB

Was it any better than the Odistar Mini Vacuum? Naw! You’ll see a small demo on this week’s show. There are many companies selling this on Amazon. The one I bought is here: (make sure you watch the demo before you buy one! You might not want one.)

Chad’s Your Zone Soap Pump Musical Timer & Faucet Extender
Here’s what we found out about it from Walmart where Chad bought his: Practicing good hygiene has never been easier with this amazing Your Zone 2 Piece Hygiene Set including a Soap Pump Musical Timer & a Faucet Extender! Features a flexible design that installs in seconds on top of most standard soap pumps. When it comes time for handwashing, press the pump down as you normally would to turn on the tunes and watch little one’s learn healthy hand hygiene in a fun and flashy way! The Faucet Extender is a most helpful accessory in helping growing children reach the flow of water from the faucet in the bathroom or kitchen.
And Chad’s take? Chad didn’t think this gadget was very good. Mounting it on a soap dispenser bottle is difficult and see if you can hear the 20 second tune over the sound of water running in Chad’s video on this week’s show. It arrived with an almost dead battery. It uses the popular 2032 cells, which Chad had, but a ‘no battery life’ on arrival is not a good sign. Also he thought the water faucet extender and the soap timer really didn’t work that well either. It was under $9.98.
It’s still on Walmart where people liked it better than Chad: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Your-Zone-Soap-Pump-Musical-Timer-Faucet-Extender/888750828

This is not on the ‘worst list’ because it’s a bad gadget, so read on.
Actually, it’s a gadget you’ll see and probably say “wow!”, which why it’s called the WOWcube. It has 24 LCD screens and eight mini-modules for a very engaging experience. You play games by flipping & spinning the cubes! You can now play some games you know and love, but in the future the company says you’ll be able design your own game, or build an app for the WOWcube. The reason Chad included it on his ‘worst of’ list is because the sale date keeps getting push back. It’s probably more than a year later than it when it was supposed to ship, and now here in December 2022, it’s still on preorder. The price has increased too. It’s $399.99, with a $50 discount if you sign up for updates and buy a WOWcube. Shipping now is expected in Q1, which means the 1st 3 months of 2023.

The Nowatch!
This is a hard gadget to figure out. It’s a “watch doesn’t tell time, but is said to reveal your body’s hidden signals. I have to admit I don’t really understand exactly what this Nowatch does. The spokesperson said it can be pronounced “No Watch, or Now Watch. Info from the company: The NOWATCH is the first wearable ever to continuously measure skin conductance to interpret stress. Using Electra-Dermal Activity, bio sensing can provide insights into your cognitive zones – overstimulated, balanced, or under stimulated. Skin conductance is a much better predictor of cognitive abilities than heart rate alone, which other wearables use to register over-stimulation. You can read more on the company website. But remember if you wanted this, you still need a way to tell time as this device has no digital face of any kind. MSRP starts at $299.00.

Heard About Alien Tape?
From Chad’s Gadget “As Seen on TV” comes Alien Nano Double Sided Tape with adhesion capacity that allows mounting on metal, plastic, aluminum, or glasses surfaces. Does not require curing or drying stage, just press the item against the surface with tape in between for instantaneous mounting. Alien tape can be reused multiple times, and it should work just as effectively the seventh time as it did the first.
And Chad’s take? Chad found this interesting at first. The tape arrived in a bag with no instructions of any kind. Chad glued a cup to a plate and it seems to hold just fine. BUT, reusable? Chad could not get the tape off one of his expensive plates because it kept falling apart but leaving a mess on the plate. Final decision? I believe it was the 1st time a review item went right into the trash on the show! I bought this too and did not like it at all. It’s a mess to work with.

I Had High Hopes For The Comica Shotgun Microphone
I never owned a shotgun microphone, so I was excited to learn about the Comica VM10 PRO Dual-Mode USB Shotgun Microphone. This offered something I always wanted: Real-time Audio Monitoring. That means the camera person can hear the output from the microphone as it’s being recorded. No need worry if background noise is ruining a take. It also has a gain control, and Digital / Analog Output Mode Switch. I also liked that there is no battery needed. The microphone draw power directly from your phone or camera. BUT, what a disappointment. When I used the USB C cable on the mic to the USB C input on my phone there was terrible distortion that made the video unusable. I give it many tries on two different phones and all the tracks were totally distorted. (You’ll hear it on this week’s show.) So I returned it and got a refund. The whole sad story is still here: https://youtu.be/uiaVLHTeGmY
The microphone disappeared from Amazon for a bit, but it’s back now. Maybe they did an update. At least the reviews look okay. It’s about $50+. You can check the latest price on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3C7LYEs

I bought mine on AliExpress, but the one I bought is no longer available.
I found one on Amazon that seems to be the exact same thing and bit cheaper than I paid. It still takes a few weeks to arrive, an it got 5 stars. But from just 5 people rating it.

The Five Below Stomp Rocket
From Chad’s “left over gadget theme” comes the Five Below Backyard Rocket Launcher.
The company says: Bring this rocket launcher outdoors & watch ur rocket fly! See how high u can get it to go, then watch as it spins back down to earth. Stomp on the pedal to blast ur rocket upwards! What’s included: rocket, stand, launcher. Ages: 8+ (adult supervision).
And Chad’s take: Whoa, this rocket not only doesn’t launch, it practically did nothing. It hardly cleared the launch tube! It’s air powered, but seems afraid to fly into the air. It’s out of stock online at Five Below which is probably a good thing since you probably wouldn’t have any fun with it!
NOTE: We’ve already had one video of a very decent Rocket Launcer & another video from a viewer coming up in February, so it’s just the no-longer-online Five Below version Chad was reviewing.
