We finish January with our look at Four More Brand New Gadgets From CES 2023!
Rather run at home than at the gym, but have no space for a treadmill?
This is a neat looking running machine as you’ll see on this week’s show. It’s the WalkingPad R2 Treadmill. Not only is it small, but there’s really no installation needed beyond unfolding it. And that is so simple Chad learned how to do it in minutes! And, it has ready? “free installation technology” to save worry and effort. Plus “auxiliary semi-hidden roller patented technology” for easy movement. And as you’ll see, it sure looks great. Chad got to use it just for a few minutes and said the moving surface doesn’t feel quite as smooth as one of the larger running machines at the gym, but he thought you would soon get used to it. The company makes a lot of running machines, but the newest and the one in the video is the WalkingPad X21 Double-Fold Treadmill that has a speed up to 7.4 MPH. It has a digital dashboard and smartphone app, and there’s even a removable holder for your phone or tablet. MSRP is $1099, but there is (as of 1/27) a $100 off coupon on the website to bring it to the magical ‘under $1,000 mark’: $999.99.

FridgeCam Can Send You Photos Of What’s Inside Your Refrigerator.
What if you go to the store and can’t remember if you have milk in your refrigerator. Well if you have FridgeCam 2, you can find that out. It’s said to be a money-saver by turning any fridge into a smart fridge. The camera is powered by a battery said to last up to 3 months. A gyro triggers the camera to take a photo of what’s in fridge every time the door closes. It’s designed to help you avoid buying more of stuff you already have. And (I have no idea how it does this) the coming FridgeCam app says it will do all the work for you, by adding items from your inventory to the shopping list when you run out of them. You’ll even be able to integrate it with Amazon Fresh for one-click checkouts.Chad’s not sure how that app will work either, but it’s not available yet. As you’ll see on this week’s show, Chad and the spokesperson are talking about the new version FridgeCam2, which wasn’t on the company website for pre-order as of 1/27/23. (The earlier version is still for sale there.) Fridgecam2 MSRP: $99 Later in the year they’ll be a FridgeCam mini at about $69.00.

Cruz Unveils BlenderCap, the World’s Most Powerful Portable Blender
Chad liked this a lot, but maybe not the price. According to the company, BlenderCap by Cruz is the only high-powered portable blender that combines with a vacuum-insulated bottle so you can create blended shakes, smoothies and frozen drinks on the go — and keep them cold all day. If you don’t use their vacuum-insulated bottle, BlenderCap has common threads designed to fit most wide-mouth bottles — including HydroFlask, ThermaFlask, etc. For power, it has nine lithium-ion cells delivering 27 amps and 300 watts of continuous DC power. BlenderCap’s 18,000 RPM high-torque motor with 304 stainless steel blades is said to be almost ½ a hp – sure to thoroughly mix any ingredients, whether frozen, powder, sticky nut butters or liquid. Onboard charging via standard USB-C charging bricks or ports. The bottle’s Dual TwistCap allows users to choose between enjoying their drinks from a drinking spout or wide-mouth opening. All BlenderCap’s come with foldable funnels that allow you to easily add ingredients with no mess. Priced at $129.99, it’s available for pre-order on the Cruz website. Shipping begins February 2023.

FluentPet is said to help your dog “talk”. (Unless they know how to text, I guess.)
I couldn’t wait to see the video on this product. It seemed so weird. Developed by FluentPet, a program is dubbed FluentPet Connect and it said to be a way for you to “bridge the interspecies communication gap.” A pet can press buttons, such as “walk” or “play,” to indicate their needs. Owners can record themselves saying these commands using their smartphone and attach the recording to the appropriate button. And don’t worry that your pet might be talking behind your back. Button activity is recorded even when owners aren’t present, so users can monitor and track a pet’s desires and learning progress regardless of when it occurs. FluentPet was first launched in June 2020, though FluentPet Connect and its associated app marks the next step in the company’s development. I’m not convinced I have the patience for this. Chad I think is a little more open to it, but you’ll see it all on this week’s show. A kit cost about $159.00, but they are cheaper starter kits, even a test kit.

Dick’s Gadget Warehouse
January is all about CES, so for the warehouse segment we go back 9 years to CES 2014 to hear about Vuzix Smart glasses.
2014 info: Unlike Google Glass which is about $1500, Vuzix smart glasses M100 cost a third less than that, about $1,000. They’re available with eyeglass frames that make them look far less geeky than just wearing that the ‘working’ part alone. But I’m sure some nerds want you to notice they’re wearing some form of smart glasses after they spend $1000 or more to buy them. I tried the Vuzix smart glasses and my first reaction is I don’t have need information in front of me all the time. The info isn’t ‘in your face’, it seems to be floating in air on the upper part of the right eye. If I was on a trip, wearing smart glasses would be helpful to have GPS directions up there. The M100 lets you access info from your Smartphone, the Internet, etc. It uses Android for text, maps, video, email, etc. Also built into the glasses is Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 720p HD video recording. Vuzix M100 are more aimed at the commercial market, with one of the mounting options being safety glasses. A frame of choice, plus an auxiliary wired battery pack are included in the price. The cost under $1,000 – as in $999.99. The company hopes that price will drop as demand rises.
Update 2023: On this week’s show we found that Vuzix is very much still in business making dozens of products, including about 8 different versions of their smart glasses. But the price doesn’t look like it went down. As a matter of the fact the closest to the M100 we saw 9 years ago, the much newer M400 was $1299.99 as of 1/27/23. Photo is of the current 2023 model.
