Show #1921 Week of February 2nd 2023
AMAZING! This month we start year 18 of The Giz Wiz Show! (The first Giz Wiz Show – called The Daily Giz Wiz back then – was February 20th 2006!) If it wasn’t for our loyal supporters, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you’d like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we have no ads) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page: https://www.gizwiz.tv
We start February with a preview look at a Summer 2024 intro from SeaDoo, via a visit to the NY Boat Show. And then we’ll look at some very useful gadgets we found at The Inspired Home Preview.
Remember the World’s First All Electric Hydrofoil boat in our CES 2023 coverage. Perhaps the starting price of $380,000.00 was a big offputting. We don’t have an exact price for this upcoming entry announced at the NY Boat Show, but next summer it should let you go solo hydro-foiling for a faction that price!
It’s called the SeaDoo Rise. Tim, at SeaDoo PR, said there were a lot of eFoil boards around, but SeaDoo wanted to make one for a much ridership. So they created the Rise. The rider can it use standing up, on their knees or even lying down. If you’re new to the sport, the Rise eFoil features a retractable handlebar you can use for extra balance and later fold-down to feel like a true surfer. You can choose to ride your electric surfboard on the water without foiling or partially or fully deploy the foil. When you’re ready to fly over the water select your cruising speed on the cordless remote and enjoy a near-silent experience. The all-electric hydrofoil surfboard Sea-Doo Rise will be available summer 2024. Tim said the price was not set yet, but at the NY Boat show a person at the SeaDoo booth said it could be between $15,000 & $20,000. I have no idea if that’s correct, but online I did see some eFoil boards from other companies selling for $12,000 and they seemed rather bare bones compared to the Rise.

There are other hydrofoil lift-boards already in the marketplace if you’re in a hurry, and from what I’ve read, if you’re a really excellent board-rider! I have not seen these in person.

Chad’s Crappy Corner.
Chad’s Crappy Corner and his new theme for February as picked by our loyal Patreon friends is “Fire Gadgets”.
And Chad’s 1st fire gadget is Solo Stove Yukon 27″ Fire Pit!
Chad LOVES this! It’s big too, 27” diameter & 17” tall. What is unique about this fire pit is the holes. They’re not random holes, but according to the company it’s a “patented technology” that has been perfected into a portable fire pit to take along on trips or to enjoy at home. The result in nearly no smoke and only fine ash left over! Even though the model Chad has is called the Solo Stove it’s more a fire pit with a mesmerizing flame that family and friends will enjoy gathering around! Also Chad points out this is far from “cheap”. It was $442.00 on Amazon and it’s the V1. Chad noticed there is now a V2 for about $7 more, so that would be his choice if he was buying it now. You’ll it in action on this week’s show!
Amazon Link for the new V2 version: https://amzn.to/3Yicoxv $499.99.

Dick’s Gadget Warehouse
Our email this week is from a loyal fan and frequent contributor, Jeffrey Slomovitz and his son Adam. They write:
Good Afternoon Sir,
I wanted to share a gadget that I received for the holidays that I really don’t understand why it is needed. Basically I think I found the first item for your “Worst of 2023” list.
It’s called “Instant Speakers” a bone conduction concept similar to the Aftershocks branded headphones that I show in the video. These speakers attach to any surface with a sticky type substance. The concept is that they produce sound from whatever surface they are on. I personally do not see any need. The simple fact is you can purchase a good set of speakers in a wide range of sizes and brands. The item was purchased at Walmart and it retails for $29.88 (not worth it in my opinion).
I hope all is well. Take care, Jeff and Adam

How To Submit Your Video For The Gadget Warehouse & Win An Autographed Copy of MAD Magazine.
We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show! Here’s what we’re looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:
I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won’t get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, “family friendly” language applies.
–
I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can’t market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it’s a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.
–
My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don’t have a warehouse. It doesn’t matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you’re still hanging on to it.
–
My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.
–
Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We’ll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that’s unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you’ll also get an autographed 38+ year old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live outside of US, I can autograph an Alfred E. Neuman photo to you, scan it & email you a high res copy if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it’s a copy. We’ve tested it out and fans say they look terrific! If you submitting warehouse videos for a second, third time, etc., you’ll get the current issue of MAD as a thank you.
All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv
Email of the week:
Our email is from Vicki Poole, a long time fan of the show. Vicki writes:
When you and Chad were talking about the Nova Earbuds, I immediately thought it would be a good security device. You can arrange to have a friend on a phone call (without obviously holding a phone) and if you feel in danger, you could just tell your friend on the call – on your ear, so not obvious to a stalker – that you need help, or where you are. It would be worth $600 if I could give something like that to my daughter (if I had one) when she was away from the house. Maybe at a wild party, or in a circumstance that she didn’t plan on being. And I’ve even heard stories of people being harassed in Uber/Lyft rides – so things like that. I’m not sure if that makes sense to you but it sounds like a good idea to me.
As always – thanks for the entertaining shows! Viki Poole, Memphis
