CES Coverage is over, so on this episode of The Giz Wiz, we have two great videos from The New York Boat Show!
In addition for writing for MAD Magazine, and for the Match Game, for 40+ years I also wrote a monthly column for Powerboat Magazine. And since I owned several smaller facing boats and spend a lot of time I boats I was invited to be part of their semi-annual boat test team.
Over the years I was aboard quite a few test boats, several hundred over all those years.

Fountain 43 SCX
Many of them were from Formula and Fountain boat builders.
So at the NY Boat Show I took a look at a model from each of them. When you see this week’s show, you won’t be surprised that they range in price is from $1 million+ and 2 million+. But it’s a boat show, so it cost nothing past the admission fee to look! The boat show video from this week’s show is also linked below.

Formula 457 CCS
Since you really don’t get to see the entire vessel at a boat show, here’s a photo of the Fountain 43 SCX and the Formula 457 CCS, as they look on the water.

Forget: “It’s a bird — it’s a plane”
At the NY Boat Show it was — “It’s a car — no, it’s a boat!
In my 50 years of boating I have never seen any line of boats as original as this one. Called the Water Sport Car, These are jet-boats that look EXACTLY like a car, or van, or even a motorcycle. Trust me, if you ever saw one of these speeding along on the wondering ‘what the heck is that???” You can buy a motorcycle version starting at $29,000 with models that seat up to six people coming in at about $100,000. And they can be fast. I believe the spokesperson said around 50 to 65 miles per hour! Check out this week’s show for a great look at these unique water sport cars!

Beware aware that sometimes the company website goes to a ‘Go Daddy’ landing page. I was wondering why someone at the booth said: “Be sure to go to our correct website.” At one point I got there by searching for Watersports Car.

Did I Buy $119 Worth of Stuff for $29.99 –Let’s See!
It’s been quite a few years since I bought a box o’ junk, or even box o’ crap. That’s where a company has a ton of stuff in their warehouse that they need to get rid of. You have no choice of what you get, but it’s supposed to be a great deal. In my case in this video, it was to said to stuff ‘junk worth $119.99 for only $29.99. There was tax, but free shipping. Was it worth it?
Watch this week’s show and see what you think. You can even let us know in an email, if you think it was a good buy, or a good bye! We might even read your email on the show, so PLEASE do give us your opinion.

Chad’s Crappy Corner
Our Patreons voted on Chad’s February Theme and the winner was —– PRACTICAL, BUT USELESS gadgets!
What kind of gadget could that possibly be? Well, for his 1st one, Chad bought the Scissor Mouse Paper Trimmer, said to be a “Safe Rotary Cutter for Kids & Crafters. From the company: The scissor mouse cuts with a smooth paper slicing action which makes gift wrapping a breeze! It’s great for cutting paper, coupons and craft projects on flat surfaces with speed and precision safely.
And Chad’s take? When you see Chad’s demo, you’ll see he couldn’t get it work very well. Sometimes, it tore the paper badly, so this quickly went into the ‘real piece of crap’ category. Chad got his at Goodwill for $3.99, brand new. It was on sale at the company website for under $9.00, but when I checked again on 2/7/25, it was no longer listed.

Email of the week:
Paul Ayala
That “scheduled send” feature in GMail has been around for a while. I thought I’d take a moment to recommend a great email client that includes a similar feature. Of course, it supports GMail accounts (I use it with my Google Workspace vanity GMail account), but you can use it with any IMAP or POP3 email account. I first discovered it as a mobile app in the Google Play Store and fell in love with it on my Android devices. Later, I was delighted to discover they had released a Windows app as well. It’s called Spark Mail in the Google Play Store, and Spark Desktop on Windows. I do pay for the pro subscription, but it’s very affordable; and it synchronizes across all devices.
I am the CEO of my own company, Ayala’s Small Business Consulting LLC (AsBC) and I work from home providing Full-Service Bookkeeping, Start-Up Assistance, and Professional Income Tax Preparation & e-Filing services with a focus on self-employed individuals and small businesses
