Now on to the new gadgets!
Meet The Tecjoe 8.5” LCD Doodle Tablet.
From the photos on Amazon, this tablet looks like it lights up, however it doesn’t. But that’s one of the reasons the single cell battery should last a long time. It uses pressure-sensitive technology to let kids make fine lines, or fatter ones. There’s no choice of color as you write or draw, but as a child draws they create colorful lines of varying thickness based on pressure from the stylus. The company says you can use your nails, or any hard object. (Hmmm, I would add: ‘within reason’!) The LCD writing tablet can be used up to 100,000 times, significantly reducing paper waste. And it should be easy on the eyes with blue light or glare. The button battery lasts up to 6 months, according to the company. They’re inexpensive in bulk. I bought four for $15.99 which is like just $4.00 each. Surprise, a four pack was a buck cheaper on 12/28/24. 4/$14.99. That’s like only $3.75 per tablet.

Now You Can Give Commands To An “Astronaut”!
As the Giz Wiz I rarely get gifts, because most people think “There isn’t a gadget I can think of, the Giz Wiz probably doesn’t already have”. However, this holiday season, Jeff and Adam, big fans of the show and frequent contributor of ‘gadget warehouse’ videos did send me a gift. And it’s something I did not have. It’s the Astronaut USB LED Task Light. But, there’s more! You control it with your voice! You’ll see a full demo on this week’s show and ‘spoiler alert’, it works fine. The strange thing about it is I found it on Amazon and on Walmart several days before the holiday. But on the day after Christmas, when I was writing about it and was looking for a link for it, it seems to have disappeared from both sites. There is a different version that looks almost the same, but there’s no voice control, or different brightness’s, or even light modes. You simply turn the light on or off by raising or lowering the Astronauts visor. Five Below had it on their website, but it went ‘out of stock’ online, but maybe you’ll find one in a Five Below store.

This is NOT the one in the video, but one that is just an on/off light:

A Really Handy Fold-Up, Lightweight, Wheeled Duffel Bag
I wanted a rugged cloth bag small enough to carry to a meeting, but big enough to unfold and use as large, rolling shopping cart. I discovered the WOOMADA, a versatile bag, which adjusts from a compact 30L daypack, to a spacious 45XL carry-on, and further to a 60L XXL suitcase for extended vacations, or just for shopping trips where you’re probably going to buy quite a few items. It is said to navigate easily with the detachable swivel casters. You can attach or remove the wheels as desired. It’s super roomy, but I just bought it, and haven’t filled it at a supermarket yet.) And a nice touch from the company: In case one of the wheels gives you trouble, there’s an extra wheel included in the package. It was $49.99 on 12/26/24.

Chad’s Crappy Corner
It’s December and Chad’s Cheap Gadget Theme, as voted on by Chad himself is: Cheap Holiday Gadgets. Why was the theme not voted on by our loyal Patreons? Unfortunately Chad was working with Patreon tech support to fix some issues with our account, so our poll never made it online. So Chad figured Cheap Holiday Gadgets would be good, cheap, idea.
Chad’s final Cheap Holiday Gadgets is the Automatic Christmas Tree Watering System.
Wait until you see this gadget! It a Christmas tree watering system, designed to fit inside gift boxes that come with the set. That makes it easy to hide all the parts. There are hoses and plastic buckets and a floating Santa indicator that is said to allow you to easily monitor the water level in this automatic tree watering system. Watch as Chad and the chatroom try to figure out how in the world it works. The three connected gift boxes hold a total capacity of 3 gallons of water, providing enough water for your Christmas tree for 7-10 days during the holiday season. That should make it perfect if you go away on vacation. Once the device is set up, you’re supposed to press the suction bulb a few times to start the siphon principle to add extra water to the Christmas tree stand. And it doesn’t use battery or electricity. Got that? Because we’re still confused! Chad paid $25.99 on Amazon.

Dick’s Gadget Warehouse
No new warehouse videos arrived this week, but since Christmas is a lot about model trains, I thought it would be fun to show a video from the past. Most people in chat, including Chad, never saw this video before. It’s actually quite an amazing piece of engineering. It’s from Lionel and it was available more than 25 years ago. It’s a beautifully designed Chessie Locomotive & Coal Tender that runs in place, under a plastic cover if you want. No only does it run in place, there’s a whistle, bell, steam engine sounds and even smoke. It was over $2,000 way back then and you still needed to buy a transformer to run it!

If you’re a train lover, here’s a website to check out: https://virtualrailfan.com/free/ Go to their YouTube Channel for a lot of free train videos. I use their $4.99 monthly version where I have created several dashboards of my favorite trains around the country.
