The Giz Wiz #2076, Recorded Thursday Jan 29, 2026
On this week’s show it’s CES 2026, Part Three – That’s All Folks!
Cearvol Demos Their New Line Of OTC Hearing Devices.
As you know hearing devices go into the ear. Well, not necessarily, says Cearvol. At CES 2026 they showed their traditional ‘in-ear’ OTC (Over The Counter) hearing aids, but they also showed some interesting variations. For example eyeglasses with hearing devices built into the frame and over-the-ear hearing devices. They both have Bluetooth, so you can also listen to music and take phone calls. Some of these devices are coming later in the year as you’ll hear the Cearvol spokesperson explain in Chad’s video. The company has hearing devices that start at about the $200 mark.

You Want Weird? This Was Certainly The Weirdest We Ever Heard Of At CES.
There was a lot of talk about Lollipop Star at CES.
Why? Because this gadget is a lollipop that creates music in your mouth as you suck on it. Yes, weird. Also, not good weird in a lot of ways. Chad said you can hardly hear the music playing, even when using the earplugs you get in the package to block outside noise. Each lollipop has a different song, BUT, when you’re done with the Lollipop, you throw it out! So that’s a lot of plastic, plus a battery that provides you with a limited amount of hard-to-hear music. They’re not on sale yet, but you can sign up to be on their ‘first to get them’ email list. Chad said they’ll cost about $9.00 each. Now, it gets weirder. While looking for Lollipop Star on the website, something that looks and does pretty much the same thing came up at Five Below. It’s called the Amos® TastySounds™ Strawberry Flavor Audio Lollipop. It’s available now for just $5. Are they the same, or almost the same, I don’t know. But after hearing Chad’s take on these weird confection, I can get along without either of them.

A Fire Captain Creates A Smoke Alarm For Pet Safety.
Created by a veteran fire captain, the Rescue+Retriever Pet Smoke Alarm is designed to help firefighters find pets in a fire. Unlike other fire detectors, it doesn’t make a sound, which would scare pets. It’s silent and should be installed down low in an area where your pet stays, or even hides. Rescue Retriever activates a high-intensity, silent strobe light that cuts through heavy smoke, signaling firefighters to where pets may be. Each unit ships with a highly-reflective decal that can be placed at the entrance informing firefighters as to how many pets are inside and what they are. MSRP: $39.99.

Dick’s Gadget Warehouse
To contrast the new gadgets from CES 2026, we always find it fune to look back at a gadget of a past CES and wonder: “Did it did product suceed? Is it still for sale?” Here’s a look at the SpareOne Phone, from CES 2012. This was/is an emergency photo that operates on a single AAA battery. It came with a battery said to have a 15 year shelf life. It’s was a phone for emergencies, but could take and receive calls if you installed a SIM card. Retail price was about $50. On this week’s show, you’ll find out what happened to this device after the CES 2012 show. The link to the original show is below. Back then it was the Daily Giz Wiz and it hosted by Leo Laporte at TWiT.
