Giz Wiz Show #1973, Thursday February 1, 2024
This month we celebrate our 18th Anniversary of the show!!
The first Giz Wiz Show – called The Daily Giz Wiz back then – was February 20th 2006! If it wasn’t for our loyal supporters, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you’d like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we have zero ads) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page. There’s a PayPal link there too. Thank you! www.gizwiz.tv.
With this episode we finish our CES 2024 gadgets and I talk about two of the most expensive ones.
We start with A Ceiling Lamp That Could Be A Life Saver!
Here’s what Nobi says about their smart lamp: As we age, a fall can change our lives dramatically. While quick help after a fall is crucial, avoiding a fall in the first place is even better. And that’s precisely what Nobi helps to do in hospitals, senior living communities and in 2024 also for people at home! — You’ll hear the Nobi spokesperson on this week’s show.
A few thoughts about this product. It seems for now to be aimed more at business to business installations. Maybe hospitals, retirement homes, etc. Also they said prices would be set by one of their retailor/installer partners, and couldn’t even give a ‘ballpark’ figure. That sounds to us, it will be on the expensive side. Here’s their website:

You Talking To Me? —Well, I can’t hear you!
And not being able to be heard is the idea! Skyted has designed a disruptive sound absorbing open air mask that provides privacy for silent and confidential calls, meetings and gaming. The pandemic-driven proliferation of remote and hybrid work has underscored the need for such a device beyond the initial target of travelers, incorporating office workers, gamers and more. Skyted allows secure calls that are ideal for hybrid work providing total comfort and speech privacy in a multitude of settings, also offering a respite from noise in crowds. The mask is engineered with an aerospace sourced acoustic absorber that absorbs 80% of voice vibrations. It’s on Kickstarter with an announced price of $249.00.
From The Giz Wiz: When I looked on Kickstarter on 2/2/24, it seems like it’s available for $199.99 but that could change at any time. Kickstarter info link is on the company website below.

I Attended A Lot Of The Virtual Parts of CES 2024.
And I found a couple of the more expensive things at the show. I did a wrap for World News Now and feature it and my favorite them here!
I think the most unique gadget at the show was (fanfare) The Pivotal Helix. It’s said to be the 1st production ultra-light all electric aircraft in the US. This single-seat personal aircraft requires no Pilot License, but training Is Required. It has a range of 20 miles and daytime flying only. Vertical takeoff & landing. Price starts at $190,000, delivery this June. The Helix is only available in the United States. The Helix is manufactured in Palo Alto, California. The Helix complies with FAA Part 103 (Ultralight) category in the United States. The FAA requires Ultralight aircraft to fly over non-congested areas only and away from airports. Under this regulation, no pilot license is required. All Helix pilots must successfully complete comprehensive initial and periodic recurrent flight training to support safe operations in all situations. Customers will select their training dates and receive delivery timing once Pivotal receives the aircraft deposit.

My ABC report is on this week’s show and It’s also at the abcnews.com website here: https://abcnews.go.com/WNN/video/ces-2024-offbeat-gadgets-106560303 — but they often stick in a :30 commercial before it starts….

Chad’s Crappy Corner & His New Cheap February Theme!
For Chad’s New February theme our loyal Patreons voted and picked “Cheap Bathroom Gadgets”!
Chad’s 1st Cheap Bathroom Gadget is the Lifeline Shower Diffuser.
(Some info via Amazon) Transform your shower into an aromatherapy experience with a scent diffuser for home that mounts to your shower wall. LED ring signals when the scent diffuser is on, and an 8-minute auto-off timer automatically shuts off. Lifelines Crisp Mountain Air Essential Oil Blend activates a sense of relaxation and stress relief. (Oil included). Innovative ClickWick diffusion cap clicks into scent diffuser for a seamless aroma experience.
Via Chad! Spoiler Alert – Chad likes this device. It was easy to set-up. It comes with the batteries installed which Chad discovered after he unscrewed the battery compartment door. Chad liked the auto off timer of 8 minutes and liked that the cap of the oil blend has a ‘squirt’ feature if you want some on your hand or body. He thought the scent was relaxing, the LED light, not so much. MSRP: $29.99. Chad got his at Target, but it’s the same price on Amazon, but as of 2/3/24 there was a 20% off coupon there. That could vanish at any time.

Dick’s Gadget Warehouse
Our video this week is from Steve C.
Hi Dick and Chad, I don’t have a video of a gadget but a video from my new gadget!
The gadget is a new dash cam that I got to put into my vehicle to record crazy things going on while driving on the highway. It has 2 cameras for both the front and back and records both ways at 1080P at the same time but can go up to 4K. It also has a built-in GPS and can displays the time and date as well as the speed on the screen and recognizes hand gestures and can take a photo just by waving my hand underneath it. The only problem I’ve had is the GPS can’t seem to be able to decide which time zone it’s in and generally displays EST instead of MST here in Arizona. Not long after getting it installed I was driving and came up behind a Martin Marietta cement truck that hit a bump and rocks came flying off and cracked my windshield so you can actually see the rocks flying off and hear them hitting at about 14 seconds in! They aren’t terribly expensive and were only about $100 with a 64GB memory card.
Steve C / Phoenix
This was listed as unavailable on Amazon, but I found one that looks like the same unit at Walmart.
