Giz Wiz Show #1976, Thursday February 22, 2024
This show is show #1 of year 19!! And we celebrate with a brand new set designed by OMG Chad himself!
The first Giz Wiz Show – called The Daily Giz Wiz back then – was February 20th 2006! If it wasn’t for our loyal supporters, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you’d like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we have zero ads) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page. There’s a PayPal link there too. Thank you! www.gizwiz.tv.
We start with a cheap way to change a background!
Wow, I never knew about about these great inexpensive photo & video backgrounds. They’re from BELECO and they’re on Amazon. I bought the 5 x 3 ft Vintage Pirate Ship Fabric Backdrop one for my bedroom. It’s not exactly 3 X 5, but 59 inches x 39 inches. The company says the polyester fabric is is durable, reusable and can be washed and ironed. These backgrounds are great for holidays, parties, photography, even Zoom meetings. You can even use them as table cloths or decorations, etc. And they are inexpensive. I paid under $10 for the 5 X 3 foot size. Some scenes are available as big at 10’ X 20’! On this week’s show you’ll see the super effect using the pirate ship background, some Dennis Wunderlin art additions, and a bit of gadget lighting to make an amazing pirate ship come to life! (Well, sort of.)

Amazon has dozens of these, including backgrounds of castles, palaces, huge offices, the outdoors and all sort of fun scenes. Some are available as big as 10′ X 20′! They are here: https://amzn.to/3Ijajut

Another “What The Heck Is?” Gadget
To look at the photo of this gadget, you might not guess exactly what it is. Spoiler Alert. It’s a Refrigerator Turntable. A way to organize bottles of condiments, sauces, etc. in your fridge. It’s just like a lazy susan, but more in a rectangular shape. The company says the rectangular lazy susan is more versatile for cabinet, pantry, dining table and kitchen counter-top. Holds up to 17.6 pounds. The minimum refrigerator size is 15.95” long and 11.8” wide. It’s made of durable acrylic, said to be safe PET material, PBA free and easy to clean. The problem for me is this: To keep the lazy susan in place, you to use the suction cups at the back. It seems most refrigerators these days have glass shelves you can attach them to, but my old fridge has wire shelves, so I can’t use the suction cups needed to hold the bottom tray in place as the top tray slides out. I paid $28 for mine, but since it was never put into service, I gave it Little Shelter for one of their auction packages.

Unbreakable Wine Glasses?
I bought a couple of Govino Go Anywhere Wine Glasses because they said “unbreakable”. I thought it would be fun to test that claim for the show. But, as you’ll see on this week’s Giz Wiz, they really aren’t wine ‘glasses’. I should have read beyond the bold face description. Way below below in the Amazon copy it says: “The Award Winning Govino Wineglass is Actually Not Made From Glass At All. It Is Made From A Food Safe, BPA-Free Polymer Which Reflects A Wine’s Color And Aromatics Much Like Crystal.” Really? I thought it reflects more like ‘plastic’ than crystal. What made the disappointment even more, is that they cost $5 per glass. You’ll see the whole dramatic wine glass experiment on this week’s show. Set of 4 is about $20.00 on Amazon. And strangely, they got excellent reviews online! The chatroom seemed to think other plastic glasses is a much cheaper way to go.

Chad’s Crappy Corner
For his February theme loyal Patreons picked “Cheap Bathroom Gadgets”!
Chad’s 4th Cheap Bathroom Gadget is the Brightroom Over the Tank Toilet Paper Holder.
This is a two-roll toilet paper holder with an over-the-tank design. Target says it’s suitable for use in smaller spaces or in addition to another toilet paper holder
Chad liked that it holds two rolls of toilet paper, but it didn’t fit quite right on his toilet, The chatroom remarked that his toilet seemed to a bit more rounded than most toilet tanks. Chad also thought the device would have a better overall look once in place. It was $12.00 at Target. You’ll see this device, the way you install it and how it looks in Chad’s bathroom on this week’s show.
