Record breaking heat this past week in NYC!
So The Giz Wiz tried to get some cooling relief from the Black+Decker Comfort-pak
It has 3 warming temperatures and 3 cooling temp for thermal relief. You are supposed to immediately feel changes in the device surface temperature when you adjust it. And yes, you can. But does that heat or cool your body? You’re advised to wear on the back of your neck or on the front of your chest, or even use it as a handheld device by placing it against your inner wrist or holding it in your palms. But does it work? I tried it out in the blazing hot record-setting temps in NYC. Results on this week’s show. Price? It was a crazy high $96.00 on Amazon, but just $19.99 on PulseTV where I bought mine!

Is Your Old Microwave Still Safe To Use?
Since my microwave is getting on in years, I thought I better test it for leakage. I bought the HT-M2 Microwave Leakage Detector on Amazon. It’s an easy way to protect yourself from radiation leaks from your microwave. It was easy to use. Just insert a 9V battery, not included, and move the detector around your microwave while it’s running on high. Make sure there is something in the microwave, even it’s just a cup of water. An alarm beeps and a red flashing lamp will occur in dangerous zones. The digital read-out shows you where the leaks are and if they’re below 5.0, it’s safe according to what I read on the web. You’ll see what my microwave leakage was on this week’s show. And you’ll see how easy it is to use. (Spoiler Alert: Fortunately my microwave, tested fine.) I paid paid about $24, but you can find cheaper units on Amazon. Many of them seem to use the same photo, but are branded differently.

We’re not done with Turbo Fans yet!
Meet the Turbo Table Fan with the 100-Speed Digital Display
This is a bigger version of the Turbo Fan we had on a recent show. This one says: “equipped with advanced noise-reduction technology, make sure that the noise is lower than traditional fan.” It also says: With the latest AI chip, its speed peaks at 116000/min, airflow jumps by 1200/min, and wind power soars 300%, propelling air with might.” I don’t know about that, but I will say, the output from this fan sure feels much stronger than the smaller version, which is 5”. This is 50% bigger at 7.5”. As you see on this week’s show, the “100 Speed Digital Display” is almost impossible to use the way you expect. Depending on the color you choose, prices ranged from $16 to $24 on Amazon as of 6/26/25.

Chad’s Crappy Corner
It’s June and the winning theme, voted on by our loyal Patreons is Summer Time Gadgets.
Chad’s final Summer Time Gadget is the Intex Mega Chill Inflatable Cooler
You’ll see Chad demo the huge soda (or beer) can capacity of this 35” diameter Index Floating Inflatable Cooler. It’s designed to hold ice and drinks for you when you’re out on the water. It features 5 built-in cup holders, 2 trays, and durable handles. Chad liked the easy to use rope connectors in case you want to hook one or more Intex inflatable devices together. The company makes a lot of them, which Chad will show on their website. He got his at Basspro at the link below, where it was only $9.99. It’s double that price on Amazon, $19.99.

Dick’s Gadget Warehouse
It seems as though there will be big changes at Dick’s Gadget Warehouse, which is actually the Sofia Warehouse at 83rd Street & Amsterdam Avenue, Manhattan, NYC. The company filed for bankruptcy and Dennis & I didn’t know what that meant. Just yesterday while at the warehouse we were told that although there will be changes in ownership, it will remain a storage facility. But in case the rates go way up, we thought we better get everything organized. While doing that I discovered what is most likely —
– Ta Da!
The Oldest Gadget Ever Found in Dick’s Gadget Warehouse?
It’s an Edison Gold Moulded Record, a.k.a ‘ a cylinder recording.’
Edison started producing them in 1910. You’ll learn more about it on this week’s show.

Email of the week:
Hi Dick and Chad!
I’ve been listening for years and love the show. I saw Dicks clamp light and loved that it had a button to stay on for 15 minutes. I ordered one and the first one came and it was clearly a return. The product box take was cut and not packaged correctly. I thought well it’s just a lamp – as long as it works who cares. Well it didn’t work. The silver part of the power cord was loose and crooked. I tried my own usbc cable with no luck. I guess it needs a certain voltage. So I exchanged it for a new one. New one came and it worked! I threw the box out and set it up a few days later. As I was plugging the silver into the lamp I saw it was loose. A few minutes later the light was still off but I saw sparks at the silver piece! I unplugged it and looked and saw that the silver piece slides off easily leaving tiny little wires that should slide back on the usbc piece but it was very difficult to try to get them in again. And then I realized wait – if this thing sparked when off, why do I want to risk using it? Why would I even want a replacement? I then checked Amazon and saw a few reviews with a similar sparking issue. I don’t mean to scare you but I felt I should share this with you. I don’t know perhaps if you unplug yours and carefully put electric tape around where the silver part goes into the cable this will keep it stable and have less chance to spark? But I’d hate to see anyone get hurt or worse over a lamp. It’s a shame because it’s a great design and idea but I guess the company doesn’t have great quality control or something.
Take care! Dan Here’s the lamp Dan is talking about: https://amzn.to/4nd8bYy
