Giz Wiz Show #1988, Thursday May 16th, 2024.
Wow! We’re in year 19 of The Giz Wiz Show! (So, big deal.)
The first Giz Wiz Show – called The Daily Giz Wiz back then – was February 20th 2006! If it wasn’t for our loyal supporters, the Giz Wiz Show would be gone. If you’d like to support OMGchad & DickDe in our independent venture (we have zero ads) just click the Patreon link at the top of our show web page. There’s a PayPal link there too. Thank you! www.gizwiz.tv.
We Started This Week’s Show With A Really Weird “What The Heck Is It?”
The photo may not help either. That device is the Digi Travel Pillow for Airplanes. Or trains, or any other place you’re not embarrassed to actually use it! It’s said to offer excellent support to both your head and neck. “The special valve makes inflate and deflate easily and quickly.” I put that in quotes because ‘easily and quickly’ is NOT how I found trying to inflate & deflate this gadget. Also forget the part that says: When deflated, it’s easy to roll back up into the drawstring bag quickly and it hardly take up any space in your carry-on bag. Lots of luck trying to get that thing back in the bag it’s shipping in. I would not have the nerve to use this anyplace where other people could see me trying to blow it up, or even sleep in it. BUT, according to Amazon, 300+ people bought this in the last 30 days. It got 4.2 out of 5 stars, but only 11 people reviewed it. $17.99.

Meet the LED Dimmable Plant Light w/ Built-in Timer.
It’s called the Agrlong Grow Light for Indoor Plants. It’s way smaller that it looks on the Amazon page, but I ended up liking this gadget. You can set it for white 6000K/ via 24 LEDS, warm 4000K via 24 LEDS, or warm white 3000K via 48 LEDS. It’s said to effectively promote indoor plant growth any time of year. The extending rod is adjustable from 8.66″ to 26″. There’s also 10-level dimming from 10% to 100%. For a plant light I thought the cord was a little on the short side at 48 inches, but it was just long enough for my use. The grow light lamp operates from a built-in timer with 3 cycle timing setting which stay on/off for 3/9/12 hours. Once you set it it can stay on that cycle on its own, perfect if you have to go away for a few days. And it was reasonable, just $14.99 when I bought it on 5/8/24.

How do you carry your smartphone when you have no pockets, belt, carry bag, etc?
I put that question to Amazon and it came up with the GUZACK Slim Running Belt. I wanted something to carry my smartphone to the gym when I was just wearing gym shorts without pockets. That when I bought the Guzack Slim Running Belt. It’s said to fit smartphones up to 6.8”. The running belt itself fits a waist from 31.4” to 45”/ 80cm-117cm. There are 3 Separate Pouches; 2 small pockets for small things like Airpods, earphones, money, keys, tissues, etc. Headphone port can also be used for a charging able pass-thru while not wearing the belt. It’s made of ultra light, smooth, water-proof soft Lycra fabric with water resistant zippers. Machine washable. Under $14.00 as of 5/16/24. There was a $2 off coupon there at that time and was still there on 5/18/24. (It can disappear at any time.) I like this belt a lot when I not wearing anything else to carry stuff.

Chad’s Crappy Corner
Chad’s New May theme is Cheap Gadgets From Off-Price Retailers! Chad’s 2nd off-price gadget is the Tech Theory Soundflow Bone Conduction Wireless Headphones.
Chad bought these headphones at a ROSS close-out for $12.99. What did Chad think of them? You’ll see and hear his complete review on this week’s show, but here’s a spoiler alert. If you find these at close-out, it would probably be best to pass on buying them. Want just one reason? Playback time is a really dismal 3 hours. Joggers like Chad often consider Bone Conduction headphones because they provide music without covering the ears. That way you hear both the music, or whatever you’re listening to, along with the sounds of what’s going on around you. That’s the theory. But watch this week’s show to hear what Chad thinks about how these ‘bargain’ headphones really work!

Dick’s Gadget Warehouse
Our email this week is from Michael Prine who writes:
Here is a video of a 15-year-old LED that I have laying around that still works. I bought it in the mid 2009s when they were $20-$30 per bulb. Unlike current LEDs which use surface mounted devices this one used individual LEDs that are still in use today but not as a primary light source. It uses 3.5 watts and was probably a 25-watt incandescent equivalence at the time. Enjoy and keep up the good work
Michael Prine.
