Giz Wiz Show #1802 October 22, 2020 Independent Show #282
Like so many other things in these days of Covid-19 Showstoppers has gone virtual. Even though it was on Zoom, I did find some interesting new gadgets. Let’s take a look.
You probably haven’t bought a CD lately. How about a record? Have you bought any vinyl lately?
Well, it seems lots of people are back buying vinyl records, so I guess it’s no surprise Victrola brand is producing new model record players. It’s old technology nicely updated with new features. The Eastwood Hybrid Turntable offer built-in stereo speakers and Bluetooth streaming. So it’s an all-in-one solution for vinyl lovers that is both attractive in the home and delivers high quality sound. (This was a virtual event, so we couldn’t hear the sound, but the Don, the spokesperson for Victrola said the custom-tuned stereo speakers were from Klipish which is famous for great speakers. And thanks to Victrola’s partnership with Audio Technica The Eastwood has a custom made AT-3600LA moving magnetic cartridge. Play music through the built in speakers or through any external Bluetooth speaker or stream music from a smart device like a phone or tablet. But wait, there’s more! This system features a headphone jack and an RCA Output Jack to connect to other speakers system, sound bars, etc. The Eastwood’s sleek bamboo and metalized finishes give it a look that makes you think it would retails for far more than $99.99 at Walmart.

And need one to travel with? Then it’s the Victrola’s The Canvas. With this suitcase record player, your listening experience has never been so customizable! Write, draw, paint, or patch, and with 50 awesome included retro-style stickers, you can make it your own! The 3-speed turntable plays 33 1/3, 45, and 78 RPM records, and with Dual-Bluetooth Connectivity, you can stream music from your smart device, or easily play your favorite record through any external Bluetooth Speaker. The Canvas comes equipped with an easy-carry handle, and the portable turntable design allows you to make lasting music memories wherever you may be. A premium ceramic stylus brings increased bass and clarity to the classic Victrola sound, so you can rock any way you want! Available at Target and other large retailers.

Kills Germs on Your Smartphone & Charge It At The Same Time with Cell.
At Pepcom, Ampere was show their Cell, an expandable UV sanitizer that can wirelessly charge your smartphone and remove germs on the surface of your smartphone in one minute! This was a Kickstarter project that raised $133,232 toward their goal of $15,000, so people wanted this. Here’s info they shared. Cell features an antimicrobial shell — making it the first UV sanitizer of its kind. Equipped with two 15W wireless coils, Cell also acts as a powerful wireless charger. The versatile accordion-style silicone sides also allow Cell to be used in multiple orientations — flat for discreet charging, vertical for making FaceTime calls while working, or horizontal for watching Netflix. In addition to smartphones, it can sanitize anything else that fits inside. Four powerful 250-280nm UV lights remove most germs at the DNA level in just one minute. Cell doubles down on staying germ-free by having all-natural silver, an antimicrobial property, infused into the shell — making Cell an antimicrobial product inside and out. — I don’t know from germs, but this looks like a very interest gadgets. They also offer many antimicrobial accessories over at their website.

The Last Thing I Expected To Buy Was Another Smart Watch!
That was until I saw and read about the Wyze Band. This is so much more than your typical watch/activity tracker. It lets you control your smart home from your wrist. Turn on or tune Wyze Bulb. Pause Wyze Cam notifications. Control your Wyze Plug. It will also work with future Wyze devices, and with Alexa built-in, Wyze Band can control many non-Wyze smart home products. Configure rules in the Alexa app and you can have Wyze Band controlling your smart TV, running your nighttime routine, and even fetching your favorite playlist. That’s some next-level stuff right there. Even through the screen is on the small size I could read it because it’s a high-resolution, AMOLED touch screen. You can use the Wyze Band to find your phone or receive call/app notifications. It’s 5ATM rated, meaning you can submerge it up to 50 metres for 10 minutes. So, unless you’ve recently taken up deep-sea diving, you won’t have problems taking this into the water with you. And wait, there’s more!! It has a 10-day battery life. And even more! It’s $24.95, $29.95 with shipping! That’s why I couldn’t resist getting one, just have it! I have more comments as I talk about it on this week’s show.

Chad’s Crappy Corner & his fourth gadget for his October Theme.
For Chad’s Cheap Corner our October Theme the Patreons picked is “Spooky Decoration Gadgets”. (No surprise there, it has the word ‘spooky’ in it!) Chad’s 4th spooky gadget is the Celebrate! Halloween Mist Maker.
For the 1st few seconds it seemed this Halloween mist maker was going to be something great. The idea that it made mist just using water and not dry ice was intriguing. But the plastic stand needed to direct the mist was bent out of shape and wouldn’t let the mist rise like it’s supposed too. Chad dubbed this device crappy right away. You’ll see it all on this week’s show. On Walmart where Chad bought his, it’s sold out, and the reviews there are dismal. Like 1 & ½ stars out of 5. A lot of people complained about that critical plastic piece that seems to arrive bent tor broken. I looked for this on Amazon & found one that uses the exact same photo as the one at Walmart, but it has a totally different plastic stand. I never saw it in person, but the reviews are 4 out of 5 stars, so I assume it works a lot better. It is about $3 more than Chad paid. His was $13.84, the one on Amazon is like $16.67. (I’m not going to buy one because I already own a big fog machine!)

UPDATE ON THE FILTERS CHAD DEMONSTRATED ON LAST WEEK’S SHOW. Don’t buy them. They melted!
To replace them Chad bought Novostella 2Pack 20W LED Flood Lights. He bought 2 sets for a total of four lights. Although he got four remote controls, he said he can use just one of them to control all four LED spot lights. Be sure to watch this week’s show to see how great the lighting Chad did at his house looks a night.
Here’s just a bit about them from Amazon: Novostella LED Flood Lights offer 6 Modes & they’re Dimmable. 20 different colors of lights are available, it offers you 6 kinds of color changing patterns, including flash, strobe, fade and smooth etc. you can DIY thousands of colors and adjust the brightness. We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show! Here’s what we’re looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:
I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won’t get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, “family friendly” language applies.
–
I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can’t market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it’s a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.
–
My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don’t have a warehouse. It doesn’t matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you’re still hanging on to it.
–
My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.
–
Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We’ll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that’s unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you’ll also get an autographed 38+ year old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live outside of US, I can autograph an Alfred E. Neuman photo to you, scan it & email you a high res copy if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it’s a copy. We’ve tested it out and fans say they look terrific! If you submitting warehouse videos for a second, third time, etc., you’ll get the current issue of MAD as a thank you.
All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv
