Giz Wiz Show #1807 November 25, 2020 Independent Show #287
On this week’s show we start with an LED Rechargable Beanie, great for the cold weather, especially now as daylight lessens and winter looms.
This is not only a warm Winter beanie hat, but also a hands free LED flashlight to light your way at night. This can be a great outdoor utility light for dog walking, camping, running, pretty much any place you want a hands-free light. It’s a one size fits all, or I guess, one size fits most. It’s available in many colors, ideal for men or women. The LED light in this acrylic knit hat with is both removable and rechargeable. The company says it can light the distance up to 30 feet away. The built-in 4 SMD LED light provides 120 Lumens and up to 4 hours of continuous use or 68 hours of intermittent use. There are three brightness settings. The first push is full bright, then medium, then low light. Remove the light to charge it from any USB port, car charger or portable power bank. Best of all, it’s usually under $14. (It was under $10 when we shot our video, but the price is changing daily. Click the Amazon link to find the latest price & look around there as there are many companies selling what look likes the same LED beanie.

The LE LED Camping Lantern With Detachable Flashlights.
This is a a clever design for camping, boating, emergencies, etc. LE is not French, it stands for Lighting Ever, the brand name of this device. As part of the LE rechargeable lanternthere are two removable small flashlights. The lantern itself is powered by a rechargeable 1800 mAh battery, while the removable flashlights are each powered by 3 AAA batteries, included. Each flashlight has a front standard flashlight LED plus a side task light. The detachable flashlights do not need batteries when attached to the unit. On the lantern you can turn on 2 lights or 4 lights while the 2 flashlights are attached. That give you a 360 degree light with the four sides lighted. I believe it’s a total of 58 LED’s, which at its highest brightness is 600 lumen. If you want, you can also add 3 D size batteries to the lantern base which are not included. They could act as a fall-back if you forgot to charge the rechargeable battery. The company says it takes about 4-5 hours to fully charge the built in battery. I was disappointed there wasn’t the ability to use the lantern’s battery as an emergency phone charger, but you can’t do that. There’s a tiny compass on the top of the lantern which at least can point in general directions. There are also rubberized handles which will allow you to hang the lantern to a tree branch, or in your tent. Water resistant: IPX4. Ships with 6 AAA batteries, charging cable (description says type-C, but it’s USB-A), 12V car adapter.

Forget Those Dull Blue Masks Millions Are Wearing, Design & Print Your Own.
When I got an email asking if I would like to have a mask with an image of my mustache on it, I thought that sounded great. I expected them to ask for a photo, but about a week later, such a mask showed up in the mail. (You’ll see it on this week’s show.) It turns out you make your custom masks at home with the SnapStyle Printable Masks Kit, which just launched on Amazon and Walmart. Here’s how the company describes the kit: With fabric-printing technology, you can replicate almost ANY picture, pattern, or other artwork directly onto a 100% cotton protective mask using just your mobile device – no sewing required. The kit includes everything needed to make several masks, which can be sized to fit children and adults. SnapStyle has been rigorously designed and tested to meet WHO guidelines for barrier masks and AFNOR guidance on filtration and breathability. People can create unique custom face masks that celebrate a beloved team, coordinate with a favorite outfit, or even replicate their face! —- I also like that the app allows you to virtually see what the mask you designed will look like on your face before you print it. On this show you’ll also see me unpack a kit so you can how thorough and complicated these masks are. But I think people into social media will love making them and it will kids busy for a hour or so. Along with the kit you need an iron, scissors and of course, an inkjet printer. A kit of 2 is about $16.00 but it’s way cheaper to buy the kit for 4 masks which is only $2 more – $17.99.

Chad’s Crappy Corner & His Final Gadget For His November Theme.
When Chad showed us all the parts that are in this kit, you’ll wonder why someone just doesn’t just buy a tiny LED light at the dollar store to light up their bag. But, if you love building kits, or have kids that are into kit building, this could be a big help. (I put a photo of the back of the box above so you can see the parts that are included.) As Chad notes in the show, how did a $99.95 price tag get on this thing? Chad paid $6.99 for his and as you’ll see, he believes it was a brand new kit. You can similar new ones on Amazon for about $15.00 or so, but Chad’s was less than half that price. Even though Chad loves building things, he said he’s going to pass on building this one, it’s a lot of work for not much payoff.

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show! Here’s what we’re looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:
I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won’t get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, “family friendly” language applies.
–
I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can’t market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it’s a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.
–
My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don’t have a warehouse. It doesn’t matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you’re still hanging on to it.
–
My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.
–
Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We’ll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that’s unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you’ll also get an autographed 38+ year old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live outside of US, I can autograph an Alfred E. Neuman photo to you, scan it & email you a high res copy if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it’s a copy. We’ve tested it out and fans say they look terrific! If you submitting warehouse videos for a second, third time, etc., you’ll get the current issue of MAD as a thank you.
All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv
