Giz Wiz Show #1812 December 31, 2020 Independent Show #291
We start this week’s show with the Sprocket Select, a portable photo printer from HP.
When I inquired as to the market for these devices, here’s what I found out. According to HP, the Sprocket printers as a whole appeal to a younger crowd (60 percent of Sprocket users are under 25, says the company), and overwhelmingly women (87 percent). The original Sprocket (now in its second generation), with its tiny prints, is geared to the youngest group (Gen Z), while the Sprocket Select targets millennials interested in sharing and cataloguing experiences, with its larger print size and an assortment of journals, albums, memory books, frames, and stickers offered as accessories. The HP Sprocket SelectInstant Photo Printer prints photos on Zink sticky-backed paper via an iOS or Android app. Connect with the HP Sprocket app using Bluetooth, and print photos 30% larger, 2.3” X 3.4”, than those of the original HP Sprocket. The printer includes 10 sheets of HP Zink photo paper. Be aware the HP prints via Bluetooth only, there’s no WiFi, or even offer NFC which some printer offer as an option. I must admit the prints from the Sprocket Select are the best I’ve seen from Zink photo printers I’ve used. As of 1/2/20 it was under $100 on Amazon.

Chad’s Final ‘Extra’ For December.
Every week in December Chad has been doing a ‘gadget extra’. Chad’s extra this week is the Oreo ID! What is that you ask? Well, we all know Oreo has been big in releasing all kinds of special Oreo flavors and colors. But now they’re doing something completely different! Oreo will let you customize your own Oreos online with an almost mind-numbing number of options. Among them are choosing from eight different creme filling colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, or white. You can decide if you want your Oreo’s dipped in white or dark fudge. But wait there’s more. You can add sprinkles, add a photo or even text to the top of your custom cookie. Pricing is a bit complicated. For example you can choose between a minimum order of 20 one-count boxes, a minimum of five four-count boxes, or a 12-count or 24-count box option. Got that? Well, maybe not without a calculator. As you’ll see on this week’s show Chad surprised me with his own custom-designed Giz Wiz Oreo Cookies! He said they taste delicious! Before he eats them all, I think he ordered two dozen, he promises to send me a few. We’ll see.

Aching Shoulders? The OVELY Shiatsu Back & Neck Massager Might Help.
A friend said this device is amazing and I should buy one. So I did! First, a bit of info from the company: This Ovely Shiatsu Back & Neck Pain Relief Massager Deep Kneading with Heat Pain Relief gives you the ultimate massage experience with its ergonomic design and heat therapy technology that soothes sore muscles and knots. The U-shape with unique nodes makes the product perfectly fit for different body parts – neck, shoulder, back, waist, arms, legs and feet. Use it at home, in your car or at the office! 8 kneading rollers. 15-minute auto-off function. Size: 22 x 20 x 7 inches. Includes AC adapter + 12 V DC.
From the Giz Wiz: I found this device to be really big. As you’ll see in this week’s show, it’s kind of unwieldy to place on your neck or other places where you may want to use it. Because it was highly recommended by a friend and the reviews are decent, I guess if it works for you, it doesn’t matter if it’s big and bulky. I personally didn’t find it useful enough to keep.

Chad’s Crappy Corner & His Final Gadget For His December Theme.
For December our loyal Patreons picked “Gadgets & Gizmos $10 and under”. And Chad’s final cheap gadget is the Traxx Bluetooth Sunglasses.
Here’s what Five Below (where Chad bought his) says about the Traxx Bluetooth Speaker Sunglasses: Check out these super cool sunglasses with built-in bluetooth® wireless speakers! They are one-of-a-kind & an unbelievable price too! Includes built-in rechargeable lithium polymer battery. Play time: up to 2 hours. Material: 90% plastic, 10% metal.
And Chad’s take: Chad couldn’t believe there is even 10% metal in these things. The lenses are more like a cut-up plastic filter that you might put over a light bulb, plus not only is the sound terrible, there’s only one speaker on one side of the glasses! And the play time? Just two hours! A total waste of $7. Luckily, they’re sold out online so you won’t be tempted to buy them. Totally crappy says Chad!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show! Here’s what we’re looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:
I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won’t get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, “family friendly” language applies.
–
I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can’t market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it’s a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.
–
My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don’t have a warehouse. It doesn’t matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you’re still hanging on to it.
–
My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.
–
Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We’ll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that’s unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you’ll also get an autographed 38+ year old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live outside of US, I can autograph an Alfred E. Neuman photo to you, scan it & email you a high res copy if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it’s a copy. We’ve tested it out and fans say they look terrific! If you submitting warehouse videos for a second, third time, etc., you’ll get the current issue of MAD as a thank you.
All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv
