The Dual Foldable, Bendable, LED Desk Lamp!
Chad and the chatroom was impressed with this Shine Tech Double Illumination Desk Lamp. It’s equipped with dual light sources designed to ensure even luminescence of a medium to large workspace. Each light source can be controlled independently or simultaneously. There are four different color temperature options (warm white, natural white, cool white, and daylight) and 5 brightness levels for each color mode. The adjustable swing-arm desk lamp allows you to position the light in any direction you need. It features two light bars that are 270° rotatable and two sturdy pivots that can move up to 210°. The ultra-wide, strong metal clamp supports a desktop edge thickness of up to 2.3″. And it leaves a lot more desk space not needing a base on the desk. MSRP: $39.99 to $49.99, but there is usually a discount coupon to click. I don’t how long it will last but as of 7/5/24 there was a 50% off offer, but prices can change rapidly on Amazon.

Ever hear of a ‘Hair Chalk Comb’?
I never did, so I bought the MSDADA New Hair Chalk Comb. As the company says, “hair chalk is fun for kids, but it’s not a professional hair dye product. It is OK to apply on light hair like blonde. For darker or brown hair, the application can be more challenging. It’s pitched more toward girls, maybe because they have the most hair on their heads to color. I tried it on my gray ‘stache as you’ll see on this week’s show, and it’s wasn’t as much fun as I expected. It took some effort to get some color in my ‘stache! But for party fun, or cosplay, this could work. Someone in chat said Hair Wax is better, but my experience with hair chalk was enough for me. As you’ll on the show, mine did wash completely out with shampoo in the shower. The kit I bought was $8.99 and there are tons of hair comb kids on Amazon! $8.99

Chad’s Crappy Corner
Chad’s New July Cheap Gadget Theme, voted on and picked by our loyal Patreon members is…..Music Gadgets!!
And Chad’s 1st musical gadget is pretty fancy! It’s the VTech Kidi Star DJ Mixer
You’ll see Chad demo a lot of the features of this colorful gadget, including the moving disco light – which Chad said made it an ideal choice to show on The Giz Wiz. So I don’t get the info wrong, the following is from this DJ Mixer on Amazon. Kids can mix and jam with a DJ turntable! There are 15 built-in songs and 2000+ sound combinations. Create custom sound effects to mix onto songs, then save your music samples and add light effects for a dazzling DJ party. Connect to your music playlist via BLUETOOTH or audio cable; play your mash-ups through the built-in speaker or plug in headphones, which are not included. Ages 5+ years; 4 AA batteries included for demo purposes only; new batteries recommended for regular use. And the cost? I guessed $50. I was pretty close. Chad paid $49.99 at Walmart. It’s the same price on Amazon.

Dick’s Gadget Warehouse
Our video this week is from Bryan Fields:
Hi Dick & Chad:
Here is a little video I made from a trip to the Parade of Steam at Cass Scenic Railroad in Cass WV. It may not really fit as a gadget video so it’s okay if you don’t use it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQduF8KexSk&t=17s
From The Giz Wiz: Actually, we’re showing Bryan’s video for two reasons. One, I LOVE trains. But two, it’s about Shay locomotives. What’s a Shay locomotive? It’s one of the wildest looking, weirdest operating locomotives ever built! And in his video, Bryan shows one in operation and explains how it works and what it was used for!

Michael Prine tells an amazing story of how he used ‘water activated batteries’ (like the one we’ve shown a couple of times on The Giz Wiz) more than 50 years ago!! Here’s his email:
Hello Chad and Dick, your latest episode where you took another look at water activated batteries for flash lights reminded me of my High School years in the 70s. I had an old 250 Harley Davidson motorcycle that was always breaking down. This model had a 6 volt battery that was recharged with a generator not an alternator like they are now. At one point the generator went bad and was going to be quite expensive to replace. At the time I didn’t have that much money so I looked around for things I could do to get around the problem. If I disabled the headlights I could put the battery on a charger and run around for an hour or so but I didn’t want to risk getting somewhere and have the battery die. Fortunately at the time I lived in Los Alamos and we had a great salvage yard filled with lots of stuff from the labs. One of the things I found was a batch of water activated batteries for weather balloons. I discovered that they would run the bike for several hours before they were exhausted. So I just needed to bring along a water bottle and several spare batteries and I was set. As I recall the batteries were less than a $1 a piece and gas was 25cents a gallon so I was able to ride the back trails for several months before I could save up enough to get the generator fixed. Keep up the good job.
