Notebook Computers & Chromebooks Are Light & Thin & Really Short On Inputs! This Can Solve That Problem.
I have WiFi in my Gizneyland studio, but it doesn’t extend to my apartment next door. I ran a cable between the two apartments, which means I only have a hard-wired connection in my living space. So when I took my Acer Chromebook there, I remembered it’s setup for WiFi only. That’s where the OWC USB-C Travel Dockcame in handy. By plugging it into my Chromebook I would be adding an Ethernet port and more. The Dock E has a 100 watt power pass through, so you plug it into your USB-C powered notebook or Chromebook and then you’ll added six ports, one of which is the USB-C power pass through. You don’t even need to remember to bring a cable because one is built into the bottom of the unit. The six ports are: (2) USB 3 Type-A, 4K HDMI 2.0, SD card reader, Gigabit Ethernet, and 100 watt USB-C power pass through. So via its integrated USB-C connecting cable, this mini Travel Dock E lets you transforms one USB-C input into a decent mobile office with the ability to connect, charge, display, and import with USB-C equipped computers, tablets, and phones. MSRP: $64.99, but it’s selling for $10 less than that on Amazon and most other retailers.

Check the latest price on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3BziX3A (The newer version has an Ethernet port & 100W pass through, the previous model only 60W, some other upgrades too. But they often sell for the same price, so check the details carefully to get the newest model, which is called model E on the company website.) A Tech Guy On The Radio Solves My WiFi Problem. (You may have heard of him. Leo Leporte, The Tech Guy on TWiT. He’s Good!)
Strange as it seems, I have great WiFi in my Gizneyland studio, but zero WiFi in my apartment, even though they are back to back. Between the two apartments are bathrooms & small in kitchens and I would have expected WiFi to travel that far, but it doesn’t. There is however a hardwired connection between the two apartments. I asked Leo how to get WiFi using the wired connection in my back apartment and he said buy a TP-Link Access Point. I bought the TP-Link Wireless Access Point TL-WA901N | 2.4Ghz N450 model. The company says: Designed to establish or expand a scalable high-speed wireless N network or to connect an Ethernet-enabled device such as a game console, digital media adapter, printer, or network-attached storage device to a wireless network. Supports Client, Multi-SSID, Range Extender, and AP operation modes to enable various wireless applications. It’s also able to be powered using an Ethernet cable to simultaneously send data and electricity, up to 30 meters (100 feet) of flexible deployment with included Power over Ethernet Injector. Easily setup a WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK encrypted secure connection at a push of the WPS button. — Okay, most of this I don’t understand, but basically I plugged it in and it worked.
But since I only had a single Ethernet wire going into my apartment, t I also had to add a splitter.
I bought the TP-Link TL-SG105 | 5 Port Gigabit Ethernet Splitter. The single wire from my Gizneyland studio goes into that and then a wire from the splitter goes to the new access point. It works fine and now I WiFi everywhere! Thank you, Leo!

And this the splitter: TP-Link TL-SG105 | 5 Port Gigabit Ethernet Splitter.
It was under $16.00 when I bought time and I don’t think I’ve seen ratings this high before on Amazon: 4.8 out of 5 stars from almost 64,000 reviewers!

We Play A Quick “What The Heck Is It?” On The Show.
We played a quickie What The Heck Is on this week’s show and surprising it wasn’t guessed as quickly as I thought.
The gadget is the Joseph Joseph Can-Do Compact Can Opener. And it is a compact can opener with unique, circular shape that does make it look like a kitchen timer as some peole guessed. What is really about it is space-saving design. Instead of having a big, clunky can opener in a drawer this takes up a tiny bit of space being only 2.6” X 2” X 2”. Chad remarked how easy this would be to drop into a backpack for a camping trip.
The opener automatically grips can edge as you start to twist the know. The knob is big and the device has places to grasp it tightly. As you twist it cuts easily through the can lid. Then there’s an Easy-Press lid-release button that drops the lid from the opener. It cuts the whole lid off and you should exercise caution with the opened can. But I did not find a sharp edge on the can I opened. It should be easy to wipe clean with a damp cloth. When I bought mine it was justs $7.99 on Amazon. (Be aware another seller had it for $27.00)

Chad’s final cheap bike gadget is something slight weird called Safety Skin.
Here’s the company says about it: Safety Skin Reflective Skin Spread is the first reflective product designed to be applied directly on your skin, allowing you to experience unmatched comfort, fashion, and performance in visibility enhancement. Safety Skin is suitable for use in low light, inclement weather, varying terrain, and in warm climates where excess garments create discomfort. Made of seven natural ingredients, Safety Skin features no billowing (won’t slow you down) and is fully sweat resistant. To use, twist up product and firmly swipe back and forth on skin. Product appears light grey in color, reflecting upon light. Test until desired reflectiveness is reached. Safety Skin will not come off with excessive sweat, high heat, or external weather conditions. It removes best with a wet wipe or lathered with soap and water.
And Chad’s take: Chad said it seems to do it says. Watch this week’s show to see Chad use it on various parts of his body. He also says when he just rinsed his skin, Safety Skin stayed on which is good because it means it can be sweat and rain resistant. Chad thought at $19.95 was on the expensive size and be aware that the tube you get seems way smaller than it does on Amazon. (You’ll see the actual size on this week’s show.)

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show! Here’s what we’re looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:
I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won’t get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, “family friendly” language applies.
–
I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can’t market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it’s a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.
–
My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don’t have a warehouse. It doesn’t matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you’re still hanging on to it.
–
My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.
–
Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We’ll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that’s unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you’ll also get an autographed 38+ year old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live outside of US, I can autograph an Alfred E. Neuman photo to you, scan it & email you a high res copy if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it’s a copy. We’ve tested it out and fans say they look terrific! If you submitting warehouse videos for a second, third time, etc., you’ll get the current issue of MAD as a thank you.
All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Roger S uses the screen name fuelboat…. I emailed about that – his reply:
Fuelboat comes from the class of race boat I was a crew member on. It is a Top Fuel Hydro Drag Boat that runs in the 240 + MPH range in a quarter mile. The drag boat racing has pretty much stopped because of money issues in racing and sponsorship. The engines produce over 8000 HP, the same type of engines used in NHRA Funny Cars and Top Fuel Dragsters.
