This is our “worst of” show, the worst gadgets Chad & I reviewed in 2021!
I didn’t include a lot of details on the gadgets we talked about on this show because there’s nothing here worth buying. It’s more of a ‘warning, don’t buy’ show! Links to items still for sale are are included in case you want to find more info, or read other reviews.
We worked backwards with a countdown from 10 – pretty bad to 1 — really awful!
10. Blackout Buddy –Emergency LED Flashlight.
From Eton, a company that makes some wonderful gadgets for emergencies. This however, I felt isn’t one of them.
It doesn’t give much more light than water-activated LED’s on Amazon that sell for 1/3 the price.
Basically, these don’t use batteries. When you need light in an emergency, dip this is water and in seconds it will light up. It will stay on for many hours, but once the light goes out, the life of the gadget is over. So you never have to worry that the battery is dead, but you have to remember to have an unused one ready for light in an emergency.
All the details and a video demo is on this week’s show.

9. Charge your smartphone right through a table?
That’s the idea behind the the badly named: HOCAO YIGO Long-Distance Wireless Charger. This Self Install qi Charger seems like a great idea, but Chad tried to use it in many places around his house and found no place he could use it or even get it to work properly. On Amazon, the link indicates SOLD OUT, which is posted in a lot of places. Chad wondered why they did that. Me too.

A Different Kind Of Kitchen Timer & A (slow) Way To Transfer Liquids.
The PIHEN Timer, Kitchen Timer Multi-Function Electronic Digital Timer seems neat at first glance. This timer starts and stops without you having to press a button. Just flip TickTime so the time you want to count down is facing up. The timer starts automatically. Chad basically like this device, but thought some of the design choices were odd. He’ll explain it all in his video. It does look very techie, but then again it’s like $36.00, for just a timer. And one that doesn’t let you set an exact time you may want.

7. The Smart Funnel is for effortless transfer of remaining slow fluids, place the funnel into the neck of receiving container & place pouring container into top clip of the funnel. Place the funnel into neck of receiving container and swing top clip away. Place container into top clip with lid closed and the smart funnel will hold the bottle upside down, ready to use. I was going to try it for transferring skin moisturizer, but reviews for that said it’s painfully slow, so I’ll stick with Flip-It from several shows ago. However Smart Funnel did get 4.7 stars from over 3300 ratings. $11.99 or 4/$27.99, about $7 each, comes in four colors.

A Saw Loser & A Dangerous Soda Can Opener.
6. A Cut Way Below The Others!
I never owned or used a chainsaw. When I saw one as a ‘deal of the day’ for under $30, I figured I should own one. Now this is one small, 4″ chainsaw branded Moyotec. Part of badly written the copy read: We add a safety lock button to prevent accident start. Please note that the safety button and switch button must be pressed at the same time when starting, the safety button can be loosed when using.” Really? That would be a good safety device, but the safety lock on the one I got DOES NOT WORK. The chainsaw will start no matter where the safety lockout button is placed. This is not good. In addition to the faulty safety lock, the 24V battery doesn’t fit exactly fit right, so I wonder if there are any other flaws in the device. Oh wait, there is. There is no safety guard at the top of the exposed saw blade as many other brands have. I’ll be returning it to Amazon. I’m not recommending this and when I checked Amazon on New Year’s Day, it comes up “unavailable”. That’s a good thing in this case!
5. THIS GADGET WAS FROM CHAD’S “CHEAP DRINKING GADGETS” THEME.
It’s the LIANGKEN Go Swing Can Opener Handheld, Topless Can Opener, Can Top Remover. The 4 cutter heads are said to be 304 stainless steel that can easily open the can without deforming the can. And the copy says: “there is no sharp edge at the opening, which will not hurt your lips. It is important that no aluminum scraps from cutting fall into the beverage.” Chad’s Take: Whoa! Are they kidding? This thing just doesn’t work smoothly at all, and when it does work it pretty much wrecks the can. You’ll see in this week’s video you do need those tweezers to pull the lids out of the can and also to pick aluminum scraps out of the can. This is definitely a ‘stay away from this product’ review!

A Peanut Butter Jar Mixer & The Personal Cooling/Heating System.
Here’s some copy from Amazon about the device.
Love natural nut butters but hate the aggravation and mess of stirring them? Now with a single tool you can mix your favorite natural nut butters in the most commonly used 26 to 28-ounce jars easily & cleanly with the EZPB stirrer and scraper. Simply insert the stirrer in the jar and rotate the stirrer. The crank design uses mechanical leverage to make stirring easier than with a knife or spatula. After mixing, use the included scraper to easily clean the stirrer.
As you’ll see in this year end wrap-up this doesn’t work very well. It’s still up there on Amazon will pretty good reviews, but it looks awkward and messy to me. Chad has it on his ‘worst of’ list, so I’m steering clear of it. 🙂 If you want to read the reviews and see the item on Amazon it’s here:

3. This gadget is almost laughable. First some stuff about this product from the web:
Keep yourself cool under the heat of the summer sun with the Cooling Bottle and warm under the cold of the winter. Designed for portability, this hand-held device fits in most cup holders and runs on battery. The fan draws in air, circulates it around the Ice and sends cool air out. Whether you use it at an outdoor sporting event, the beach or just in the comfort of your own home, this device is indispensable when the weather heats up! Vacuum insulated, stainless steel double walled-chamber seals out ambient air to keep ice longer. For Cool-air: Add 2 Cups Ice Cubes(Max.) For Warm-air: Add 2~4 Air Activated Warmers. Runs all day and night on just 3AA batteries (Not Included). Tube is included
OMG, this was one of the most disappointing gadgets I ever used! I couldn’t even get the air stream from this device to move the end of a paper towel. And it’s so noisy. Take to the beach? You’ll need to bring a cooler full of ice cubes.

Now let’s look for it on the web!
It’s here for $119.99!! https://3pexperts.com/product/2-in-1-personal-cooling-and-heating-bottle/
There’s a 3.0 Version on Amazon that looks similar but isn’t exactly the same. It’s $49.99 and the reviews seem to indicated it’s not that great. Even their own copy says something like “You’ll be up to 20 degrees cooler for about 20 minutes using 2 cups of ice. For that reason, it shuts off automatically after 20 minutes.” Here’s the link, but I’m not about to buy another one so similar to the one I already bought:
Amazon: https://amzn.to/3Hu87Om– (I’ve not used this particular model but I suspect from the ratings it’s not much better than the one I already bought.)

A Wacky Pizza Cutter & Laser Scissors I Found Difficult To Use As A Cutter.
From Amazon: Fast and effortless dual wheel cutting without ruining the surface. Fashionable bicycle pizza cutter made of high quality stainless steel with sharp non-stick edge. Comes with a stand allowing you to display it in your home. — While this does cut pizza, it’s a lot harder and messier than the simple single wheel pizza cutter. But the kids will love this. The cheap ones did cut pizza, but not as fast, and they feel lightweight & not as well made. They actually are lightweight by putting them on a scale as you’ll on this week’s show. If you like this of thing I spend the extra few bucks for the more pricey one which is much better build. Chad wasn’t crazy about either one, so this was high of his ‘worst’ list.

- We saved the ‘worst’ for last. It’s one of those “As Seen On TV” devices.
Yes, we make constant fun of ‘As Seen On TV’ gadgets, and it seems with good reason. They never seem to live up to the hype, like this: Do you hate that you can never cut a straight line with regular scissors? We have the answer! These unique, high-quality laser guided scissors give you an absolutely straight guide line to cut along. Two adjustment screws allow you to aim the laser light perfectly where you want it. Great for sewing, craft projects and wrapping gifts. REALLY? With every cut on the scissors the laser light moves a lot. We tried it on fabric, on a Amazon bubble envelope and on just a plain sheet of paper and never got a perfectly even line. Maybe if the scissors were much sharper that wouldn’t cause the laser to move so much with each cut. They’re the worst!
