Show #1870 For Week of Feb 11th 2022 Independent Show 346
Here’s tiny Bluetooth Speaker with a tiny price!
It’s the Ewa A106 Mini Bluetooth Speaker. (Sometimes the word PRO is added to the description on Amazon.) I found out about this mini Bluetooth speaker from Johnny Jet’s newsletter. I thought it would be fun to buy and try one since the price was under $18! The Ewa A106 Pro mini speaker is indeed small but the sound is bigger than one might expect. Be aware it Bluetooth only, there’s no way to use an audio cable to hook it up. It’s feel very well built, but weighs a bit over 6 ounces according to my postage scale. I wish it charged via USB-C, but it’s micro USB and a charging cable is included. You also get a metal hook and carrying case. The case has a sort of speaker grill so you put the Ewa speaker in the case and use the hook to hang it on a bike, backpack, etc. I’m only had my Ewa for a couple of days, but the company says the built-in Lithium-Polymer battery guarantees 6 hours of play time, and up to 8 hours (at 50% volume). Just half an hour of charge time with 1A charger equals 2 Hours of play time. To make it very small they also add: We gave up functions such as a microphone, 3.5mm jack and unnecessary buttons, leaving one silicone button (Hold to switch on/ off, one-tap to pause, double-tap or triple-tap to switch songs). If you need a small BT speaker, this one is a good choice to my mind. MSRP: $17.99. — But checking the price on 2/12/22, it was down to $14.44! That price can change at any time on Amazon!

A Chad Extra — Just one more gadget from CES 2022
Not only is Chad a gym rat, he is really interested in getting as many readings of what his body is doing, as possible. So he very interested in the Aktiia Blood Pressure Monitor. I know zero about this subject, but here’s bit from the company. You’ll learn a lot more and see the product when you watch this week’s show and Chad interviews someone from the company. The Aktiia Blood Pressure Monitor automatically gathers over 100x the data and has over 10x the engagement of other blood pressure monitors. Aktiia’s optical sensor at the wrist measures around the clock, providing data that can be instantly viewed in a mobile app and easily shared with a physician or family member. It has already received the CE Mark as a Class Iia medical device and is currently available for sale in seven countries across Europe. To date, tens of thousands of units are in use and over 20 million readings have been captured. You’ll learn a lot more via Chad’s interview on this week’s show. But, it is not yet available to buy in the US. It’s awaiting FDA approval, but it is expected to be about $200. Chad is VERY interested in this!

Two Ways To Wear Your Smartphone On The Outside.
With the really cold winter we’ve been having in NY, my spouse Dennis was wondering if there was a way to wear his smartphone on the outside so he didn’t have to go digging for it. We check Amazon and of course, there are many ways. We picked and ordered two device. The first one, from Moko, looked the easiest to use. First, some info from the company: Moko Waterproof model: Universal size: Fits devices up to 7″ diagonal (without rugged case) with extra space for credit card, ID, cash, coins. IPX8 CERTIFIED – water-resistant up to 98 feet (30 meters). Slim transparent cover allows full touch screen functionality even underwater. Lightweight Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) casing with a simple snap and lock access. Dual function design with a detachable lanyard for hanging around neck + adjustable armband for attaching to arm firmly.
From The Giz Wiz: You’ll have to watch the video to see how we fared with this. Once we slid into the case, it was a nightmare to get it back out. Since you can use the phone while it’s in the Moko case, this may be fine for you. But if you prefer putting it in and taking it out a few times a day, this may not be for you. It’s about $7 or $8 depending on the color. If you want four for a family, there’s a 4 colors for $13.99 option. We could not wireless charge the phone in this case.

Our 2nd choice was from Gear Beast. Here’s some info from the: Wear your phone, credit card, cash, and ID around your neck. Available in multiple colors and patterns to suit your taste and preference! Extra-strong silicone, our phone leash wraps around your cell phone, providing a secure carrying solution with drop protection. Universal Fit: Stretchy silicone, our cell phone lanyards are compatible with most smartphones.
From The Giz Wiz: We liked this better. It’s pretty easy to get the phone in and out of the Gear Beast. But saying: “drop protection” is optimistic. I guess if your phone fell on it’s back there would be some protection, but otherwise, lots of luck. I did like the extra pocket for cash, credit card etc., but it makes wireless charging in this case impossible. At least for us. It does come in many colors and patterns, but one I bought marked ‘clear’, isn’t very clear as you’ll see on this week’s show. Under $10.00.

Chad’s 2nd ‘Crappy Corner’ Gadget for the February Theme.
Unlike the $139.00 Apple 3-way Mag Charger, the one Chad found is about $100 cheaper. It’s the Compact 3 in 1 Wireless Portable Charging Station for Iwatch/Airpods/iPhone.
Here’s a bit via Amazon: Innovative triangular magnetic design, our fast wireless charger station folds into a space-saving single-device charger and you can also lay it flat or triangle stand mode to charge three devices at once. (15W/10W/7.5W/5W/2.5W). 3-IN-1 FAST WIRELESS CHARGING STAND Reducing cord clutter with the 15w/10w panels and apple watch panel to ensure your technology always has a full battery. Foldable to eliminate cords & streamline your travel. $35.99.
And Chad’s take: As you’ll see on this week’s show, Chad got to charge 3 of his Apple devices at the same time. He was impressed with the way the device could fold up flat, and also be used in a trianglular mode. But then he started reading the reviews on Amazon which were not very good. So rather quickly he moved this gadgets into his ‘kind of crappy’ corner.

Dick’s Gadget Warehouse & How To Submit Your Video To Win An Autographed Copy of MAD Magazine.
This week’s gadget warehouse video is from Michael Prine who has submitted a video in the past. Here’s his email:
Hi Dick and Chad:
Here’s a gadget I keep on the shelf and occasionally play with. I bought it a number of years ago because I saw it at Walgreen’s and thought it was too silly to be real.
My video link is: https://youtu.be/E6Hj6UDC2L0

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show! Here’s what we’re looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:
I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won’t get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, “family friendly” language applies.
–
I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can’t market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it’s a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.
–
My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don’t have a warehouse. It doesn’t matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you’re still hanging on to it.
–
My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.
–
Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We’ll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that’s unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you’ll also get an autographed 38+ year old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live outside of US, I can autograph an Alfred E. Neuman photo to you, scan it & email you a high res copy if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it’s a copy. We’ve tested it out and fans say they look terrific! If you submitting warehouse videos for a second, third time, etc., you’ll get the current issue of MAD as a thank you.
All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv

Email of the week!
Our email is from John Susco and the subject is Inexpensive product for this month’s theme.
Chad, I have a suggestion of a product for this month’s theme. 5 Below sells a $25 record player with built in speakers. I saw an online review which actually gave it a pretty descent review. Ideal product for someone who wants to play the records they found in their garage.
https://www.fivebelow.com/products/vinyl-record-player-turntable-with-dual-speakers
From the Giz Wiz: When we went to that link, it said “sold out”, but Chad recalls seeing this turntable on sale at his local Five Below store. So it’s possible he may be able to buy one and demo it on the show for his Crappy Corner!
