Giz Wiz Show #2002, Friday August 23, 2024.
At a NY Press Event, Anker Introduced A Slew of New Gadgets!
However, except for one, they are all under embargo until IFA, a huge tech show that takes place in Berlin, early September. But we were told we could talk about two versions of one of really useful techie gadgets that will be out on August 28. It’s the new Anker Solix C300 D & Anker Solix C300 . It can be charged using an optional solar panel or for the first time, users can use two of the USB-C ports at the same time, boosting charging speeds to up to 280W. Inside is a 90,000mAh 288Wh lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery with total power output of up to 300W. There are 7 ways to charge your stuff: 2 USB-A ports, 4 USB-C ports and a 12V Auto power outlet. At the top is a pop-up LED light with 3 step dimming. Not at the demo, but coming August 28th is Solix C300 that adds 3 AC outlets. That unit can be plugged into an AC outlet to charge it. The DC version weights a bit over 6 pounds – AC version is more like 9 pounds. Both versions will be available through Amazon and Anker’s online store starting on August 28th. The Solix C300 DC is priced at $199.99 and the AC version will be for $249.99. BUT depending on when you this, there’s a preorder deal at the Anker website. Order before August 27th, you save $50, making it $149.99 for the DC version and $189.99 for the AC model. Again, that discount is only on Anker’s website for orders placed BEFORE August 27th.

Iced Coffee In About A Minute?
And you don’t need ice to make it! What? It’s called the HyperChiller and after you set it up, which you only have to do once, I found it worked really well. After I took the HyperChiller out of the freezer I made a K-cup directly into the gadget. After a minute the hot coffee from the K-cup was cold enough to drink without ice. The company says it’s also perfect for chilling tea, juice, wine or other adult beverages without dilution… you can even chill a glass of wine! It’s under $20 on Amazon as of 8/23/24.

The Giz Wiz Gets ‘Mooned’.
Fans know I love wall & ceiling projectors. My newest one is the MRSCOZ Music Aurora Projector. It offers some extra features like a Bluetooth speaker & a choice of five white noise settings. Mine arrived with a non-working remote. Even after I installed a brand new battery to replace the dead battery in the remote, it still didn’t work. But, as you’ll see, I still liked the features that worked with the buttons on the projector itself. The projector simulates and reproduces the dynamic effects of the Milky Way, creating a starry sky atmosphere on your ceiling. And as Chad pointed out, It’s designed for ceiling projection only. But the sides on the projector light up too and are said to ‘dance to the music’ you play via Bluetooth. It also has stereo speakers, which I did not get to test because I was unable to pair it with my phone. Amazon is replacing it, but in the meantime I still like it just for features I demo on this week’s show. Under $25.00 on Amazon.

Chad’s Crappy Corner
Chad’s Chad’s New August Cheap Gadget Theme, voted on and picked by our loyal Patreon members is Cheap Time Gadgets – gadgets that have anything to do with time.
On this Giz Wiz Chad’s shows us his new DreamSky Vibrating Alarm Clock.
This small clam-shell style clock is designed for travel or for your bedroom, it’s especially for people who need extra help to wake up. It features five shaking levels and two wake up modes. You can choose to wake up to the vibrating alarm only or both the beeping alarm and the vibrating alarm. Chad liked this alarm because it comes with it’s own USB-C brick, and has easy-set buttons. But he thought it would be a better value if it wasn’t about $25.00. You’ll hear all his comments and see how the clock works on this week’s show.

Our video this week is from Lawrence Wengler, who set us a video of one of his favorite “in use” gadgets.
Lawrence writes:
Hi Dick and Chad,
I made a little video on my favorite home automation gadget, a battery-powered motor for blinds.
I hope you like it.
Cheers, Lawrence
From the Giz Wiz: I found this helpful gadget on Amazon. It’s about $70, but it’s cheaper if you need more than one.

Email of the week!
This week’s email is from Michael Manly who writes: Subject: The Eye Clock.
Hey Dick and Chad,
i know Chad said during the livestream that the hour “eye” of the clock was moving, maybe the clock was built backwards (ie Minutes on the left side and Hours on the right). what if you flipped it 180 degrees and set time?
Thanks, keep up the great work and the show!
