We start off the year with look back at some of The Best Gadgets of 2022! Turns out we uncovered a lot of useful, unique and often fun gadgets during the previous year. And here they are, in no particular order!

Here’s a great light bulb that can become VERY useful in an emergency!

The Jackonlux LED bulb comes with a little plastic gadget that looks like a mini outlet. Plug your lamp into it and yes, the Jackonlux bulb will light! That’s because the JackonLux bulb is a combination of a regular led bulb and a power outage light with a built-in battery. If there is power outage, it will stay lit if it’s already lit. It doesn’t come automatically when it’s off while you’re away to save battery power for when you’ll need it. Being an LED bulb, it uses just 9 watts, about a 60W equivalent. I bought the soft white 3000K version. Charging Time is 8-10 hours, butit charges all the time you’re use the bulb as a regular light. Once it’s fully charged, charging automatically stops. It’s a standard E26 base, just like a regular light bulb you normally use. Also included with the bulb is a cap with a small hook on top. Remove the bulb from a lamp, screw on the cap and control on / off by the cap’s built-in switch. This is great to carry around in an emergency or even for use in a tent or outdoor shed at night. If it’s on when the power goes out, it should stay on, but it may not work properly when connected through a powerstrip. I bought the two pack for $17.99 on Amazon.

Let the Cool Caddy Handle Hot Dishes From The Microwave.

Chad liked Cool Caddy and found it works rather well. It’s a device to let you heat dishes in the microwave, while catching spills and protecting your hands from the heat when you remove them. It become ‘unavailable’ on Amazon shortly after Chad showed it. But, our chatroom found one that does a lot more, and costs a lot less. Chad said he wished he had seen the Microwave Cover with Tray that protects your microwave from splatters and spots before he spent $17 on his. The one they found is listed below. (Yes, I now own one and like it.) It does basically the same thing – “The tray has two handles, which can prevent scalding, allowing you to quickly take out the heated food, and keep the microwave clean without washing.” But it also comes with a Microwave Cover for Food. Small holes in the top of the lid allow steam to escape, encouraging airflow to prevent condensation buildup. But wait there’s more, it also collapses! One unit was under $10 in grey and a set of 2 about $17 as of 1/6/23. The photo is the one I bought. Be aware that the price varies by color.

Fomalanche is a fun gadgets that makes piles of light, airy foam you can run through, toss in the air or use to decorate things. It’s easy to set-up. You do need to install 6 D batteries (not included) which requires removing 4 small Philips head screws. Then mix 1 of the 3 bags of foam solution (included) with water and it’s ready to foam! The company says Fömalanche creates enough foam to fill up 5 pickup trucks in 25 minutes. (Pick up trucks not included!) The Fom is said to be non-toxic and tear free. Using it I didn’t tear up and as you can see in the photo, I had it all over my face. There’s a big built in handle so you can Fom as you walk. It’s great fun. Price varies widely from about $40 to $60.

Chad’s Favorite Portable LED Phone Photo Light.

It’s the Newmowa 60 LED High Power Rechargeable Clip Fill Video Light. It has 3 light modes (Bright White, Bright White + Warm Yellow, Warm Yellow) to improve the quality of night photography. Chad liked this video l ight a lot because they are multiple ways to clip it, or mount it. Most unusual is that it can be changed via Micro USB or USB-C. (It comes with a Micro USB cable only.) It small enough to improve phone photography and it easily attached to a smartphone. It’s lightweight and offers a lot of adjustable light output from the 60 LED’s. And it’s under $30.00. Be aware though that shipping time can be weeks even though it’s on Amazon.

(Left in photo) The Fufeisi 400ML Flame Diffuser Humidifier is a clever idea. It uses LED’s and the mist from the humidifier to make a wonderful flame effect. You can also use it as a Essential Oil Diffuser. I got a chuckle out of what the company says about it: “The soft warm light of the Flame Air Diffuser makes it looks like a fireplace, but the fine cool mist of the humidifier will makes you feel cold. The difference of visual and sensory will give you a novel experience.” A display screen on the side shows the time and there’s an alarm, but no there’s no mention of a ‘snooze’ function. The remote has flame settings, timer settings, but has to be aimed directly at the display window to work on the unit I bought. It holds 400ML, (about 13.5 oz of water) which is almost twice as much as many other units. It’s very quiet as it work so it shouldn’t disturb you while you sleep. It was under $30

Update: One Flame Diffuser Wasn’t Enough!

(Device on right in photo above.) So I also bought a smaller one without remote control & clock. Ready? It’s the Chanhyer 240ml Essential Oil Aromatherapy Diffuser AKA: Cold Mist Simulation Flame lamp Effect Spray Humidifier. Since it holds just 240 ML it’s a smaller footprint, but it also has a wonderful flame effect. It too will go off when the water runs out and can be set for 2 or 4 hours before it goes off. It has a high/low flame setting but I couldn’t tell the difference between them. All the controls are on the unit itself and if the bright orange logo on the side seems too bright, you can just face that side toward the wall. I paid $22.99 when I bought mine on Amazon.

Chipstiick – What The Heck Is It?

Chad found a weird gadget I and most everyone in the chatroom never saw before.

Two Super Bright Keychain Flashlights. And A Third One I Like!

This mini COB pocket Magnetic flashlights offers up to 500 lumens. But it’s more than a flashlight. As the company puts it: It is a keychain flashlight,a work light, a camping lantern….and it has a strong magnet on the back to hold it in place on metal surfaces. It has 4 Light Modes, high, low and strobe. A long press of the on button bring up the maximum brightness of 500 lumens. It not only can clip onto a keychain, it also has a built-in bottle opener. It charges via USB-C and a charging cable is included. There’s also a stand on the back which can be adjusted to face whatever chore you’re doing in dim light. The built-in 500mAh lithium battery works in max mode for 2 hours, low mode for 6 hours. I bought a twin pack for about $19.00

The second LED Bright Rechargeable COB Keychain Flashlight I showed has more features. The company says this one has a maximum of 1000 Lumens and 7 Light Modes. It also has four screwdrivers, a wrench and a sharp point to break safety glass. (But I worry you might accidentally hurt yourself with it if you’re not careful. I’d put tape over the point.) There’s also an easy way to hang it on a backpack, use it as a keychain, and it’s also equipped with a bottle opener. COB light source technology can provide bright light from multiple wide angles, and can be used for about 2-8 hours. 7 light modes: White Light Bright, White Light Dim, Warm Light Bright, Warm Light Dim, Red Light Bright, Red Light Strobe, Super Bright Mode(Long Press). Four-blue LED Power Display. I paid $11.99. for one.

If you have a lot of $$ and a lot of room AND want to have a lot of fun —

It’s the Flybar Bumper Car XL It fits 2 Kids, or one adult, with a capacity of 200 pounds. Powered by a 6 volt battery, on a full charge it will run for about 25 minutes. However, a company execs said to me: “Believe me Dick, 25 minutes will be a lot playing in one of these cars”. The back is that the company’s kid-sized version of a bumper car just like you’d find at an old time amusement park was a big hit! They were so popular they made the list of “Hottest Toys of 2021” list. So there were many requests for a bigger ‘adult-sized’ bumper car. And that led to the Flybar Bumper Car XL! It seats two kids or one adult and reaches a maximum speed of 3 mph. It is made with a soft rubber bumper that protects walls and furniture. It’s joy-stick driven with a joystick for the right and the left hand. I drove one at the toy event and they are great fun! It even has flashing LED lights that reflect down on the floor. It was about $250.00 at Walmart early January 2023.
