The Giz Wiz has his own Gadget Warehouse Video on this week’s show.
Apple is discontinuing the iPod, but look what I found at Dick’s Gadget Warehouse!
It’s May 2022 and Apple announces the end of the line for the iPod! Here’s a bit of history of the iPod from the Internet. First arriving in October 2001, the pocket-size rectangle with a white face and polished steel frame weighed 6.5 ounces. It came packaged with white earbuds in a custom color, moon gray, and held 1,000 songs. Last week, Apple officially said goodbye to all that. The company announced it had phased out production of its iPod Touch, bringing an end to a two-decade run of a product line that inspired the creation of the iPhone and helped turn Silicon Valley into the epicenter of global capitalism. I went to the warehouse and found a brand new iPod mini – ‘new in box’ as they say. I checked out this iPod mini online. The iPod mini was announced on January 6 2004. Apple described it like this: “iPod mini is encased in an ultra-portable, lightweight anodized aluminum body available in five stylish colors—silver, gold, pink, blue or green—and features a patent pending, touch-sensitive Click Wheel for easy, one-handed navigation.” Then a bit more than a year later on Feb 2005, a new version with of the iPod Mini with a starting MSRP of $249, which was lower than the $299 starting price tag new iPods had previously been priced at. But then, it turned out to be the iPod product with the shortest life. On September 7, 2005, Steve Jobs announced the iPod Nano, which became a replacement for the iPod Mini. The decision to kill off a product as popular as the iPod mini upset some people, but it introduced an amazing new feature – flash storage! So the iPod Mini was produced for only 1.5 years which the Nano would be in production until 2017, when it was officially discontinued. Now they’re all gone — but not for me, I found the 30 GB iPod in the warehouse, probably never used, but shown on ABC’s World News Now. And the 6GB iPod mini, never used and still in it’s original plastic wrapping. I hope they’re worth something. (The warehouse is $$$.)

We’d love to include your video in an upcoming Giz Wiz Show! Here’s what we’re looking for! Your home shot video – 2 to 3 minutes long, in any of the following categories:
I bought a piece of crap: Did you buy something you ended up hating? We won’t get you a refund, but we might be able to give a platform to vent your disappointment. Remember, “family friendly” language applies.
–
I invented this! Did you invent something? (Or did a friend or relative invent something.) We can’t market it for you, but we can help get the word out. Show us what it is, and how it works. Even if it’s a prototype, you can get our (and the audience) reactions. No professional ads please.
–
My Gadget Warehouse: Okay, so you don’t have a warehouse. It doesn’t matter. Just tell us about your favorite old gadget(s). When and where you bought it, and why you’re still hanging on to it.
–
My Favorite Gadget (favorite old, or favorite new): Show us what it is, tell us what it does and why you love, or loved it! It can be a new gadget you just bought too.
–
Post them on YouTube and send us the link! We’ll do the rest. (Or possibly nothing, but that’s unlikely.) Remember, videos should be just 2 to 3 minutes long! Low production value is fine, but we should be able to hear you and see you! If we select and show your video on The Giz Wiz you’ll earn a tiny amount of fame (hopefully). And if you live in the US, you’ll also get an autographed 38+ year old Alfred E. Neuman picture and a MAD surprise (most likely the current issue of MAD.) But no matter where you live outside of US, I can autograph an Alfred E. Neuman photo to you, scan it & email you a high res copy if we show your video. Just print it out, frame it, or just hang it up and no one will know it’s a copy. We’ve tested it out and fans say they look terrific! If you submitting warehouse videos for a second, third time, etc., you’ll get the current issue of MAD as a thank you.
All show submissions go to mail@gizwiz.tv
