Even if you’re not a train fan, you’ve probably seen a lot of stories about the Union Pacific BIG BOY locomotive. With it’s tender, it’s almost 100 feet long. Rowel went to see and video record this machinery wonder when it passed through Philadelphia in early July. Chad, I and the chatroom were really impressed at the great shots of the train Rowel was able to get. Here’s Rowel’s email:

Hi DickDe, Chad, & the Giz Wiz,

On Sunday, the 5th July, my mom and I had journeyed down to Philadelphia.  Among the many sights we did see was the world’s largest steam locomotive operated Union Pacific Railroad – no.4014, a member of the “Big Boy” class. The locomotive itself was only on public display and not, unfortunately any of the vintage passenger cars it brought along.  The day included free goodie bag of stuff and of course free water.

On the 6th July, I journeyed back down to Philadelphia to see 4014 off and I managed to record a video :

Note :  sorry about the wobbliness of the camera. With my left hand, I was holding my iPhone up above the fence which was taller than me ; I was propping up my umbrella with the crook under my left arm against the wind and rain ; and I was waving my hat to the crew I saw.

If you do watch through the whole video and see the few crew wave, they are indeed waving at me bc I was the only one there. Everyone else was sheltering under the bridge.

Hope you found this interesting /enjoyable, Kindly, – Rowel C.
