EMAIL OF THE WEEK:

Mike Carty emails us about how much money was raised to develop the Author Clock that was the warehouse video a couple of weeks ago.

Hello Dick and Chad,

I wanted to contribute some information about the Author Clock from Episode #2084.

It was an originally a Kickstarter project (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/authorandco/author-clock-a-novel-way-to-tell-time) with $1,316,465 in pledges from 8.254 backers and then moved to Indiegogo

(https://www.indiegogo.com/en/projects/mechanicaldesignlabs-21813165/author-clock-a-novel-way-to-tell-time) with an additional $2,250,000 in pledges from 12954 backers.

It was quite the project and took several years for them to create and produce.  The quotes were submitted mostly by the backers of the project.  There were many delays in production and shipping with shipping costs being much higher than originally forecast.  In the end I paid over $50 for shipping with insurance plus $234 for the large version of the clock.  It was shipped in January 2024 and I think it arrived sometime that February.

They are also currently for sale on the MoMA website.

So the $5 thrift store find by Jeff was quite a deal.
