We start this week’s show with the Sprocket Select, a portable photo printer from HP.
When I inquired as to the market for these devices, here’s what I found out. According to HP, the Sprocket printers as a whole appeal to a younger crowd (60 percent of Sprocket users are under 25, says the company), and overwhelmingly women (87 percent). The original Sprocket (now in its second generation), with its tiny prints, is geared to the youngest group (Gen Z), while the Sprocket Select targets millennials interested in sharing and cataloguing experiences, with its larger print size and an assortment of journals, albums, memory books, frames, and stickers offered as accessories. The HP Sprocket SelectInstant Photo Printer prints photos on Zink sticky-backed paper via an iOS or Android app. Connect with the HP Sprocket app using Bluetooth, and print photos 30% larger, 2.3” X 3.4”, than those of the original HP Sprocket. The printer includes 10 sheets of HP Zink photo paper. Be aware the HP prints via Bluetooth only, there’s no WiFi, or even offer NFC which some printer offer as an option. I must admit the prints from the Sprocket Select are the best I’ve seen from Zink photo printers I’ve used. As of 1/2/20 it was under $100 on Amazon.
