More New Gadgets from the Pepcom Spring Spectacular!
Another Way Technology Is Designed To Help An Aging Population.
A few weeks on the show we learned about VideoPad, a way to help seniors stay connected. At Pepcom, I met ElliQ, said to address the challenges of aging in place by offering daily check-ins, social engagement, and access to services and a variety of activities. ElliQ uses AI to help older adults participate in wellness routines in 4 key areas. They are: Physical exercise, Cognitive training, stress reduction and sleep. I thought ElliQ was a bit strange looking, but the gentlemen said they are getting impressive results from older folks using the system. It is on the expensive side as you’ll learn on this week’s show. However, users will have a month to see how they like it. If they don’t like it, the person can get a full refund according to the company.

Smile, it’s the Kodak booth!
One of the new gadgets at the Kodak booth was their new Printomatic+.
While the original camera has a 5 mega-pixel system, the new model features a 10 mega-pixel camera. Both cameras print out your photo as soon as you take it, and both cameras have a micro-SD card slot. With that, so can also print your pictures yourself. They use Zink KODAK 2″x3″ Premium Photo Paper. The spokesperson wasn’t sure of the price, but checking on Amazon I saw 50 Sheets for about $25.00, so it’s about 50 cents a photo…..I emailed about getting the latest press kit for the new Printomatic+, but my email reply said they are writing for final approval on that. But the Plus model should be out next month, sometime in June, 2025. And it will have a MSRP of $89.99.
They were also showing the KODAK LUMA 500 FHD Ultra Smart Pico Projector.
It features Google TV and voice control with the new integration of Google Assistant. So users can navigate settings and access streaming apps through voice commands. It’s available in black and white. As you’ll see in the video on this week’s show, it’s a sleek and compact projector. Kodak says it delivers stunning Full HD resolution, with auto-focus & keystone correction, is complete with HDR and 4K support, offering up to a 150” screen size. It’s available now. $699.99 at Amazon.

Rice Cookers That Do More Than Just Cook Rice!
At Pepcom, I saw one of the new Zojirushi Rice Cookers. This new Pressure IH model offers a wide array of cooking settings including, white (regular/firm), umami, mixed, sushi, sweet, Jasmine, congee, brown, GABA brown, steel cut oatmeal, quick white and quick Jasmine. The spokesperson explained that people want appliances that can do more than just one thing, and Zojirushi has answered that call. They have one model can even let you bake a cake! The one at the show was a high end model offering a large orange LCD control panel, clock, and delay timer with 2 settings. The unit also comes with automatic keep warm, extended keep warm and reheating functions. Retail was close to $500, but this company makes more than a dozen rice cookers that start at about $140. A lot of people in chat, and Chad too, own a Zojirushi rice cooker, or other appliance and speak about their high-quality build.

Chad’s Crappy Corner
It’s May and the winning theme, voted on by our loyal Patreons is Gadgets for Your Gadgets. That would be things you might use to help you with gadgets you already own.
Chad’s third Cheap Gadget for your gadgets is the 3-In-1 Wireless Magnetic Travel Charger 15W.
Chad, me and the chatroom liked this a lot. Yes, it was in Five Below’s beyond $5, but still waaay below what we all thought it would cost. It’s the 3-in-one Wireless Magnetic Travel Charger – a travel essential that’s pure genius. Five Below says it Qi compatible. Includes wireless charger, type-c charging cable & user manual. Chad loves this! And the unbelievable price was only $10.00. Online and at stores, but there was a low-inventory warning on 5/16/25,

Email of the week: Steve C emails us:
Hi Dickie De & Chad:
I was interested in that ISS Above gadget that you showed this week but I noticed that it has no antenna to pick up the signal from the ISS so it must be just playing the stream from over the internet and if that is the case why do I need to buy an overpriced Pi and software when I could just play it on my Chromebook or PC?
I did some investigation and found a few confusing things though, on a NASA site they say the live stream was stopped in 2019 but there are Youtube channels that claim to be playing the live stream!
I haven’t found out if they are actually still streaming it or not but you don’t have to buy an ISS Above when you can just play it on Youtube!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRPjKQtRXR8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RocB1a2kSoE&ab_channel=ISSLive
And then we received a very informative follow-up email:
Hi Dickie De & Chad:
I was talking to Liam Kennedy who created ISSAbove and asked him why I need a Raspberry Pi to stream the video when I could just use a Chromebook or PC and he said that it’s because he likes Raspberry Pi’s and doesn’t want to write another app! So that’s that!
He also said the best streaming video to watch is from Sen at youtube.com/sen/live.
